Determining 6th Grade Students’ Acquisition Level of the Learning Outcomes in Science Lesson: Solar System and Eclipses Unit

Abstract
This paper aims to determine students’ acquisition level of the learning outcomes within the scope the unit “Solar System and Eclipses” of the 6th grade Science Course. In the study, descriptive method was used. The participants were the 6th graders studying in the secondary schools in Siirt city centre. There were 5 learning outcomes in this unit. Taking into consideration these learning outcomes, a 24-item multiple-choice test was developed and used as data collection tool. As a result of the analysis of the obtained data, the average difficulty of the test was calculated as pavg =0.62 and the average discrimination of the test as ravg =0.39. In the reliability analysis, the reliability co-efficient (KR-20) of the test was found to be 0.98. When the data on the students’ acquisition level of the learning outcomes were examined, it was found that 3rd and 4th learning outcomes were below the criteria (%70) determined for absolute success. It was concluded that the other learning outcomes were acquired at the desired level due to being over the specified criteria.
Özet
Bu çalışmada amaç öğrencilerin 6. sınıf Fen Bilimleri dersi “Güneş Sistemi ve Tutulmalar” ünitesi kapsamındaki kazanımlara ulaşma düzeylerini tespit etmektir. Çalışmada betimsel yöntem kullanılmıştır. Çalışma grubunu Siirt il merkezinde yer alan ortaokullarda öğrenim gören 6.sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Bu ünite kapsamında 5 kazanımın olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Veri toplama aracı olarak bu kazanımlar dikkate alınarak oluşturulan 24 maddelik çoktan seçmeli test kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizine göre, testin ortalama güçlüğü port=0.62 ve testin ortalama ayırt ediciliği rort=0.39 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Yapılan güvenirlik analizinde ise testin güvenirlik katsayısının (KR-20) 0.98 olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin kazanımlara ulaşma düzeyine ilişkin veriler incelendiğinde ise 3 ve 4 numaralı kazanımların mutlak başarı için belirlenen ölçütün (% 70) altında olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Diğer kazanımların ise belirlenen ölçün üstünde olduğu dolayısıyla istenilen düzeyde elde edildikleri sonucuna varılmıştır.
