Abstract
Giving Religious Education Lessons in schools in Turkey, which started from within the changing education system and the occurrence of an independent branch of religious education since the end of the 19th century in has been a controversial issue. In this article, fırstly the short history of religious education in Turkey is mentioned. Then necessities of religious education are discussed in the light of discussions on a new constitution and new education system.

Türkiye'de okullarda din derslerinin verilmesi konusu ile ilgili tartışmalar onun 19. Yüzyılın sonlarından itibaren değişim gösteren eğitim sistemi içinde müstakil bir branş oluşundan itibaren başlamış ve günümüze kadar her dönemde devam etmiştir. Çalışmada Türkiye'de okulda din eğitiminin tarihi sürecine kısaca değinilerek yeni eğitim sisteminde seçmeli din dersleri ve yeni anayasa tartışmaları ışığında zorunlu din derslerinin gerekliliği tartışılmıştır.
