Abstract
This article is devoted to the study of one of the last compositions, the polyphonic cycle "12 Fugues" for piano, by the outstanding Azerbaijani composer of the 20th century, Kara Karayev (1918-1982). More than two centuries separate the polyphonic cycles “Die Kunst der Fuge”, (BWV 1080) and “Das Wohltemperierte Klavier”, (BWV 846–893) created by the great J.S. Bach from the works created already in the 20th century by the brightest representatives of our time. These are “Ludus Tonalis” by P.Hindemith, “24 Preludes and Fugues” by D. Shostakovich, “12 Preludes and Fugues” for 2 pianos by Jamal Reshid Ray, “12 Fugues” for piano by Kara Karayev. In his work, Karayev managed to demonstrate the "connection of times" based on the brilliantly implemented idea of combining the highest values of different musical cultures. The paper identifies the priority aspects of the analysis - the relationship of horizontal and vertical in polyphonic fabric, based on the changed aesthetic attitudes of the 20th century. The factor of interrelation of 2 components of the polyphonic texture, their specificity is defined as the basis of the originality of the form, dramaturgy, style of the work. Such characteristic phenomena in Karayev's polyphonism as the originality of the modal-tonal structure, based on the 12-tone dodecaphone system, which is synthesized with the modal intonation elements of the Azerbaijani mugham "Shushter", are emphasized. The cycle "12 Fugues" is the focus of achievements and specific characteristics of piano writing and performance in the composer's work. The characteristic features of K. Karayev's pianism are defined as exponents of the innovative creative approach to the "traditional" form of the fugue. The article consists of an introductory section, which outlines the features of the upcoming analytical study. In the next three sections, a planned analysis of both polyphonic features and the dramaturgy and form of the work is carried out, and the features of Karayev’s pianism are touched upon.
Karayev'in polifonizminde, Azerbaycan makamı "Şüşter"in modal entonasyon unsurlarıyla sentezlenen 12 tonlu dodekafonik sisteme dayalı mod-tonal yapının özelliği gibi karakteristik olgular vurgulanmıştır. Ayrıca Karayev’in piyanizminin özelliklerine değinilmiştir.
