The Importance of Interdisciplinary Education at Intersection of Architecture and Civil Engineering

Mimarlık ve İnşaat Mühendisliği Arakesitinde Disiplinler Arası Eğitimin Önemi

Abstract

Interdisciplinary study in education has an important role in terms of increasing the quality of education and producing more qualified projects in the continuously changing world. In the undergraduate education, where the foundations of the profession are laid, cooperation studies have great importance in terms of creating a common language, sharing knowledge and skills with the architecture which is the professional group of civil engineers will work with most in their business life. The study was formed in order to analyze the contribution of the architectural knowledge course given in the context of interdisciplinary cooperation in the department of civil engineering to the education life of the students and to determine the positive and negative aspects in terms of course operation/scope. In the study, a questionnaire was applied to 132 students with 3rd, 4th-grade students. In the findings, it has been determined that the students who participated in the survey stated that it would be more beneficial to increase the number of application and drawing studies in architecture knowledge class. In addition, it is found that students request increasing of the number of supplementary courses such as technical drawing, building elements, building materials and site techniques which can contribute to this lesson.

Özet

Eğitimde disiplinler arası çalışma; sürekli değişen dünyada eğitim kalitesinin artırılması ve daha nitelikli projelerin üretilmesi açısından önemli bir yere sahiptir. Mesleğe ait temellerin atıldığı lisans eğitiminde inşaat mühendisi öğrencilerinin iş hayatlarında en çok birlikte çalışacakları meslek grubu olan mimarlık ile aralarında ortak dil oluşturup bilgi ve becerileri paylaşması açısından işbirliği yapılmasının önemi büyüktür. Çalışma, inşaat mühendisliği bölümünde disiplinler arası eğitim kapsamında verilen mimarlık bilgisi dersinin öğrencilere katkısını incelemek ve dersin işlenişi/içeriği açısından olumlu ve olumsuz yönlerinin belirlenmesi üzerine kurgulanmıştır. Çalışmada 3. ve 4. sınıf öğrencilerinden toplam 132 kişiyle anket uygulaması yapılmıştır. Bulgularda öğrencilerin ders kapsamında daha fazla uygulama yapılması, mimarlık bilgisi dersine katkıda bulunabilecek teknik çizim, yapı elemanları, yapı malzemeleri ve şantiye teknikleri gibi ek derslerin sayısının arttırılması gibi istekleri tespit edilmiştir.
