Educational Philosophy Beliefs of Music Teacher Candidates

Abstract

Educational beliefs of the music teacher candidates were identified in this study for whichsurvey research was used. “Educational Beliefs Scale”, which was developed by Yılmaz,Altınkurt and Çokluk (2011), was used as data collection tool in the research. The research wasconducted with 455 undergraduate students studying in the departments of music educationin 2014-2015 academic year in which are positioned in different geographical regions ofTurkey and were selected via random sampling. At the end of the study it was establishedthat the dominant educational philosophies of the participants are respectively “existentialisteducation”, “progressivism”, “reconstructionism” and “essentialism” being the lowest.
