Abstract

The modernization movements that shaped the Ottoman Empire's history in the nineteenth century constituted one of the main themes of Turkish literature after a point. The literary accumulation from the Tanzimat to the Constitutional Monarchy shows this reflection clearly. The acceleration of the modernization movements with the Republic also caused a certain change in the discourse and content of Turkish literature. This can be most obviously seen in the novels, which began to be published from the 1920s, and in the novels about the effect on the traditional way of thinking of the revolutions that took place after the Republic. In this research, it was tried to be discussed how Resat Nuri Guntekin expressed the idealized figure in the personality of the hero, Ali Sahin Efendi, in the context of his novel Yeşil Gece (the Green Night), published in 1928, how the changing political environment and discourse reflected in a literary work after the Republic.

Özet

Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun on dokuzuncu yüzyılına yön veren modernleşme hareketleri, bir noktadan sonra Türk edebiyatının da başlıca konularından birini oluşturmuştur. Tanzimat’tan Meşrutiyet’e değin uzanan edebi birikim, bu yansımayı net biçimde gösterir. Cumhuriyet’le birlikte modernleşme hareketlerinin yeni bir ivme kazanması, Türk edebiyatının söylem ve içeriğinde de belli ölçülerde değişikliğe neden olmuştur. Bu durumu en rahat biçimde, 1920’lerden itibaren yayımlanmaya başlanan ve Cumhuriyet sonrasında gerçekleşen devrimlerin geleneksel düşünce tarzına etkisini işleyen romanlarda izlemek mümkündür. Bu makalede, Reşat Nuri Güntekin’in 1928 yılında yayımlanan Yeşil Gece romanı bağlamında, Cumhuriyet sonrasında değişen siyasal ortam ve söylemin bir edebiyat eserine nasıl yansıdığı, roman kahramanı Ali Şahin Efendi’nin kişiliğinde idealize edilen figürün ne ifade ettiği tartışılmaya çalışılacaktır.
