Abstract

Cistus x florentinus Lam. is a hybrid of Cistus monspeliensis L. (Pamukluk) and Cistus salviifolius L. (Kartli), which are naturally distributed in the coastal areas of Mediterranean countries. Due to its spectacular flowers, evergreen and dense leaves, Cistus x florentinus Lam. is also a commercially popular ornamental plant. A natural distribution of this hybrid species was determined in the roadsides and open spaces of forest around Yalı Mevkii in Bodrum district of Muğla province in Turkey. This record of Cistus x florentinus (“akpamukluk” is proposed as Turkish name) taxon is the first record as a natural hybrid of Cistus L. genus distributed in Turkey. In this article, a descriptive explanation and drawing of Cistus x florentinus taxon is presented. In addition, a comparative table with parent species, a distribution map and photos are provided.
