A NEW APPROACH TO LANDSCAPE PLANNING AND DESIGN OF THE ÇANAKKALE MARTYRS MONUMENT

Abstract

Çanakkale, which has been home to many civilizations, has been able to keep alive its importance and its timeliness in historical, cultural, economic and human terms in every period. For this reason, the population potential of the city can see period-by-period increases. The monument of martyrs, located west of the historical Gallipoli Peninsula, is remarkable.for its diversity and quantity of visitors. However, the lack of enough landscaping equipment in the area makes the visit time short. This equipment, which targets a wide mass of locals and foreigners, especially in the process the summer months, will be able to make a more satisfying process for visitors from a recreational and spiritual point of view with the increase of visiting times. Therefore, it is seen that the physical dimension of the space needs to be supported by new planning and designs. The aim of this study is to gain open and closed watching terraces to Monument equipment with natural landscape at this point. Recommendation project space, it consists of about 45 acres of Martyrs Monument localization, including a ceremonial space. Applications within the scope of the project; as gradual, consists of operations such as, construction of retaining wall, construction of open and closed watching terrace platforms and constructions, establishment of pergola building elements, planting of ornamental plants identified as trees, shrubs and ground cover on the basis of regional ecology and functional characteristics. Therefore, With the realization of the project, it is envisaged that there will be an increase in the visiting potential and duration, and accordingly the dynamics of the city and the region economy will gain momentum. Likewise, the acquisition of richer landscaping equipment at the field as well as its aesthetic appearance will also amplify the potential and spiritual profit of target mass. All at this as depending of the project recommendation in the location of Martyrs Monument it is planned to be more utilitarian to the region and visitors from a historical, social, cultural and economic perspective.

Pek çok medeniyete ev sahipliği yapmış Çanakkale, tarihi, kültürel, ekonomik ve beşeri açıdan her dönem önemini ve güncelliğini canlı tutabilmiştir. Bu nedenle kentin nüfus potansiyelinde dönem dönem artışlar görülebilmektedir. Bu konuda Tarihi Gelibolu Yarımadası’nın batısında yer alan Şehitler Abidesi, ziyaretçi çeşitliliği ve miktarının fazla olması ile dikkat çekicidir. Ancak alanda yeterli peyzaj donatılarına yer verilmemesi kısa süreli ziyaretleri de zorunlu kılmaktadır. Oysa, yaz aylarında yerli ve yabancı geniş bir kitleyi hedef alan bu donatılar, ziyaret sürelerinin artışıyla rekreasyonel ve manevi açıdan daha tatmin edici bir süreci ziyaretçiler için mümkün kılabilecektir. Bunun için alanın fiziksel boyutunun yeni planlama ve tasarımlarla desteklenmesi öne çıkmaktadır. Doğal peyzaja sahip Abide donatısına açık ve kapalı seyir terasları kazandırma öneri tasarısı bu noktada çalışmanın temelini oluşturmaktadır. Öneri tasarı alanı, Tören Alanı’yla sınırlı, yaklaşık 45 dönümlük Şehitler Abidesi yerleşkesinden ibarettir. Öneri tasarı kapsamındaki uygulamalar; aşamalı olarak istinat duvarı yapımı, açık ve kapalı seyir terası platformlarının ve konstrüksiyonlarının inşası, pergola yapı elemanlarının tesisi, bölge ekolojisi ve işlevsel özellikleri temelinde ağaç, çalı ve yer örtücü olarak tespit edilen süs bitkilerinin dikimi gibi işlemlerden oluşmaktadır. Öneri tasarının gerçekleşmesi ile özellikle ziyaret süresinde artış sağlanması, buna bağlı olarak da kent ve bölge ekonomisi dinamiklerinin ivme kazanması öngörülmektedir. Ayrıca alana daha zengin peyzaj donatılarının kazandırılması, estetik görünümünün yanı sıra hedef kitlenin potansiyelinde ve manevi kazancında da artış sağlayacaktır. Tüm bunlara bağlı olarak tanımlanan öneri tasarının, Şehitler Abidesi lokalizasyonunda bölgeye ve ziyaretçilere tarihi, sosyal, kültürel ve ekonomik açıdan daha faydacı olması planlanmaktadır.
