ANALYSIS OF APPROPRIATENESS OF STUDENT CLASSROOM FURNITURE IN A UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The appropriate design of tools, equipment and accessories considering human body sizes is indispensable to satisfy maximum benefit. This is very crucial for school students who spend most of their time on the school furniture. The purpose of the study is to examine whether three school furniture dimensions match anthropometric measures of the students at Industrial Engineering Department in a university. Eighteen anthropometric measurements such as stature, weight, popliteal height, hip breadth, shoulder height using Holtain anthropometer, anthropometer set, tape measure and laser meter are taken from 46 female and 35 male students at the department. The appropriate dimensions of the classroom furniture are determined adding free space to anthropometric measures for %5 for female and %95 for male. The results indicated that the existing double furniture has low seat depth, shorter backrest and shorter desk height, amphitheatre furniture has higher seat height, narrow seat width, short underneath desk height and higher seat-desk breadth and mounted-desktop furniture has narrow seat width, shorter upper and lower edge of backrest .

Kişilerin kullandıkları araç, gereç ve donanımların, insan vücut ölçülerine uygun olarak tasarlanması maksimum düzeyde fayda sağlamak için elzemdir. Günün önemli bir kısmını masa ve sıralarda geçiren okul öğrencileri için bu durum büyük önem arz etmektedir. Bu çalışmada, bir üniversitenin Endüstri Mühendisliği Bölümü’nde eğitim amaçlı kullanılan 3 tip sıranın, öğrenim gören öğrencilerin antropometrik ölçülerine uygunluğunun tesbiti amaçlanmıştır. Bölümde öğrenim gören 46 kadın ve 35 erkek öğrencinin, Holtain antropometre, antropometre seti, şeritmetre ve lazermetre kullanılarak, boy, kilo, baldır yüksekliği, kalça genişliği, omuz yüksekliği gibi 18 antropometrik ölçü alınmıştır. Antropomerik ölçülerin %5 veya %95 kadın veya erkek değerlerine paylar ilave edilerek, sıraların uygun ölçüleri belirlenmiştir. Mevcut ikili sıralarda oturak derinliği çok düşük, sırtlık yüksekliği kısa ve masa yüksekliği düşük; amfide, oturak yüksekliği yüksek, genişliği dar, raf yüksekliği düşük ve sırtlık masa arası mesafenin çok fazla; kolçaklı sandalyede, oturak genişliği dar, sırtlık ve bel desteğinin kısa tesbit edilmiştir.
