Effects of Information Retrieval Process on Decision Making and Problem Solving:An Emprical Study

Bilgi Erişim Sürecinin Problem Çözme ve Karar Verme Üzerindeki Etkisi: Kuramsal Bir Çalışma

Abstract

Individuals who are unaware of a need for information and/or who have not experienced the information retrieval process while meeting such a need cannot be a part of information society. Only those individuals with an awareness that informationis essential to the problem-solving and decision-making processes, who are equipped with information retrieval and utilization skills and who can further integrate such skills into their daily lives, can be a part of an information society and attain the capability of performing properly in their societal roles andthus ultimately of shaping their society. Moving from this context, this article defines the elements of the information retrieval process, starting with the concept of information, and studies the influences of the information retrieval process on problem solving and decision making

Özet

Bilgi gereksiniminin farkında olmayan ve/veya bu gereksinimi gidermek için yaşanacak bilgi erişim sürecinden geçmeyen bireylerin, bilgi toplumunun bir parçası olmaları mümkün değildir. Ancak, sorun çözme ve karar verme aşamalarında enformasyonun gereksinim olduğu bilincine ve gereksinim duyulan enformasyona erişim ve kullanım becerilerine sahip olan, bu becerileri yaşamlarına kanalize edebilen bireyler, bilgi toplumunun parçası haline gelebilmekte; içinde bulundukları toplumu şekillendirebilmekte ve sahip oldukları rollerin gereklerini yerine getirebilmektedir. Bu bağlamda çalışmada, bilgi kavramından başlamak üzere, bilgi erişim sürecinin unsurları tanımlanmakta; sürecin, problem çözme ve karar verme üzerine etkileri irdelenmektedir.
