Students’ Achievement and Mathematical Thinking in Process of Problem Solving and Problem Posing

Abstract
In this study, student’s achievement and mathematical thinking in problem solving and problem posing have been studied. The descriptive study was conducted utilizing the survey model. In this context, a data collection form has been applied to participants including two problem solving and one problem posing question and solutions have been investigated. The sample of the study has been formed by totaling 450 students including 150 4th, 150 5th and 150 6th graders. Data were analyzed qualitative method. According to the findings of the study, the majority of participants observed were not enough to determine the correct solution strategy and problem solving. The findings of this study in conspicuous gratifying situation are increased problem solving and problem posing qualifications with increasing grade level. In order to increase these competencies, teachers should focus more on problem solving and setting up studies.
Özet
Bu çalışmada öğrencilerin problem çözme ve kurma süreçlerindeki matematiksel düşünmeleri incelenmiştir. Bu kapsamda katılımcılara iki problem çözme, bir tane de problem kurma sorusundan oluşan bir veri toplama formu uygulanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini 150’si ilkokul 4, 150’si ortaokul 5 ve 150’si ise ortaokul 6. sınıf olmak üzere toplam 450 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Veriler nitel olarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın bulgularına göre katılımcıların büyük çoğunluğunun çözüm stratejilerini doğru belirleme ve problemi çözme konusunda yeterli olmadıkları görülmüştür. Ancak sınıf seviyesinin artmasıyla problem kurma ve problem çözme konusunda yeterliğin arttığı görülmüştür.
