Abstract

The polyfunctionality and polysemy of suffixes is based on the phenomenon of syncretism, which in turn influenced the homonym of affixes. The development of polyfunctionality also affects the semantics of the suffix, changing its belonging to one or another class of formants (formative, derivational, inflectional). Thus, the study of the semantic evolution of affixes makes it possible to determine the derivational and inflectional meaning of certain affixes.
