Abstract
When it comes to etymology, two methods come to mind: 1. Scientific or linguistic etymology and 2. Folk etymology. However, the Polish linguist Marek Stachowski introduced a new etymology term to the literature: 3. “Perceptual etymology”. Stachowski used the term he coined for the first time in his article titled “Perceptual etymology, or three Turkish culinary terms in Croatian and Slovene, and a Polish social term inteligencja 'intelligentsia'” published in Studia Linguistica Universitatis Iagellonicae Cracoviensis 138 (4) in 2021. “Perceptual etymology. He explains in his article “A social aspect of etymological research”. In this study; ‘اِمْغا’, ‘اَلِمْغا’ (DLT 114, 127) in the Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk of Kaşgarlı (Barsganlı) Mahmud and Old Uyghur letter unaware of this new term, whose origins were explained verbally at a national symposium in Ankara. “Amga” (COUL no. 02 = K 7718 = UBr, Text A), “il ïm’ga” (U 5831 = COUL no. 74, U 5783 recto = COUL no. 180) in documents of the type military governor’s, the titles ‘ïmga’ and its derivative ‘el ïmga’, which have meanings such as “protection of the state, secretary of state, treasurer, tax collector”, are reconsidered in the context of the concept of “perceptual etymology”. In the oral presentation in Ankara, it is seen that the view that the Chinese title yaya (押牙 / 押衙), which is a Chinese title, was borrowed from a Middle Chinese form with *im go dar pronunciation during the Chinese Tang Dynasty, based on previous publications. Sir G. Clauson ‘imga’, T. Takata ‘ąmäga’, N. Sims-Williams and J. Hamilton ’’mγ’ (amgya) and T. Moriyasu in the form of amγa / ïmγa. Here is the origin of the titles in question; The term “perceptual etymology” will be tried to be re-explained by considering the writings in Old Uyghur documents, their historical development, meanings and the questions of scientists from different disciplines at the symposium.
Özet
Etimoloji denince akla iki yöntem gelmektedir: 1. Bilimsel yahut dilbilimsel etimoloji ve 2. Halk etimolojisi. Ancak Polonyalı dilbilimci Marek Stachowski literatüre yeni bir etimoloji terimi daha kazandırmıştır: 3.“Perceptual etymology (algısal etimoloji)”. Stachowski, ilk kez 2021’de Studia Linguistica Universitatis Iagellonicae Cracoviensis 138 (4)’te yayımlanan “Perceptual etymology, or three Turkish culinary terms in Croatian and Slovene, and a Polish social term inteligencja ‘intelligentsia’” başlıklı makalesinde ortaya attığı terimi, 2022 yılında aynı derginin 139 (1) numaralı sayısında yayımlanan “Perceptual etymology. A social aspect of etymological research” başlıklı yazısında açıklamaktadır. Bu çalışmada; Ankara’da ulusal nitelikli bir sempozyumda bu yeni terimden habersiz, sözlü olarak köken bilgisi açıklanan, Kâşgarlı (Barsganlı) Mahmud’un Dîvânu Lugâti’t-Türk’ünde ‘اِمْغا’, ‘اَلِمْغا’ (DLT 114, 127) ve Eski Uygurca mektup türünde belgelerde “amga” (COUL no. 02 = K 7718 = UBr, Text A), “il ım’ga” (U 5831 = COUL no. 74, U 5783 recto = COUL no. 180) biçimlerinde geçen, “askerî valinin koruması, devlet sekreteri, devlet saymanı, hazinedar, vergi tahsildarı” gibi anlamlara sahip olan ‘ımga’ ve türevi ‘elımga’ unvanları, “algısal etimoloji” kavramı bağlamında yeniden ele alınmaktadır. Ankara’daki sözlü sunumda, daha önceki yayınlardan yola çıkılarak Çince bir unvan olan yaya (押牙 / 押衙) sözünün ödünçleme yoluyla Çinli Tang Hanedanı zamanında Orta Çincedeki *im go dar telaffuzlu bir biçiminden Türkçeye geçtiği görüşünün kabul edildiği görülür. Bu unvanı, Sir G. Clauson ‘ımğa’, T. Takata ‘ąmäga’, N. Sims-Williams ile J. Hamilton’’mγ’ (amγa) ve T. Moriyasu amγa / ïmγa biçiminde göstermektedir. Burada söz konusu unvanların köken bilgisi; “algısal etimoloji” terimi, Eski Uygurca belgelerdeki yazımları, tarihî gelişimleri, anlamları ve sempozyumdaki farklı disiplinlerden bilim insanlarının soruları düşünülerek yeniden açıklanmaya çalışılacaktır.
