Abstract
In the second half of the 18th centruy, a number of pictures that we are used to seeing in the Ottaman pictures, manuscripts or albums started to be drawn on the walls of the Topkapı Palace. The main theme in these pictures whose artists are usually unkown is the description of the nature or a known place. The first pictures in the Palaceare the description of the nature landscape. These landscape pictures whose first ewamples are seen in the Period of Abdülhamid (1774-1789) and which were hand-drawn in Baroque or Rococo cartridges, are named “Wall Pictures” (Renda, 1977: 9).In the second half of the 18th century, Wall Pictures, which are a type of Ottaman painting art, started to draw attention also outside of the Palace. It is seen that the structures with wall paintings in Anatolia center around in Aegean Region. These structures are predominantly wooden-supported “Village Mosques” which do not have any ornamentation outside. The topic of this study is the wall paintings in Big Seyfullah Mosque located in Şaphane county in Kütahya. The focal point of this study is that the represenatation should be read and evaluated as a part of the city’s silhouette by handling the relationship between the representation of the “Mosque” and its contemporaries an the like.
