Sayyid Mahmud et-Tarazi and His Translation and Annotation of the Holy Quran to the Turkestan Language

Abstract
This study aims to contribute to the introduction of Seyyid Mahmud et-Tarazi, a commentator, muhaddis, jurist and poet who is not well known in Turkey. Seyyid Mahmûd et-Tarazi is one of the last representatives of the Turkistan religious sciences tradition and one of the scholars who successfully represented this tradition abroad. He had to leave his country as a result of the system and pressures of the Soviet era that excluded religion. Even abroad, he struggled against this order and translated the main works of Islam into the Turkestan language. In this direction, he translated and annotaioned the Qur'an with the name of "The Qur'an al-Karîm Mütercem ve Muhaşşâ bi'l-Luğa et-Turkistaniyye" and ensured that it reached Turkistan by publishing it abroad. Considering the political and religious pressures of that period in Turkestan, this effort of Seyyid Mahmud et-Tarazi increases his value even more. In the article, this and similar efforts of Seyyid Mahmud et-Tarazi, to which he devoted his life, were especially pointed out. One of the aims of the article is to clarify what is meant by the Turkestan language, which is mentioned as the language in which the Qur'an is translated in the title of the work. In the article, after introducing Tarazi's life, scientific activities and works, his work named "Qur'an-ı Kerîm Mütercem ve Muhaşşâ bi'l-Luğa et-Turkistâniyye" has been examined from various perspectives.
Özet
Bu çalışma Türkiye’de yeterince tanınmayan müfessir, muhaddis, fakih ve şair Seyyid Mahmûd et-Tarazî’nin tanıtılmasına katkı sağlamak amacını taşımaktadır. Seyyid Mahmûd et-Tarazî Türkistan dinî ilimler geleneğinin son temsilcilerinden ve bu geleneği yurt dışında başarıyla temsil eden âlimlerdendir. Sovyetler döneminin dini dışlayan sistemi ve baskıları sonucunda ülkesinden ayrılmak zorunda kalmıştır. Yurt dışında da olsa bu düzene karşı mücadele ederek İslam’ın temel eserlerini Türkistan diline tercüme etmiştir. Bu doğrultuda Kur’an’ı “Kur’an-ı Kerîm Mütercem ve Muhaşşâ bi’l-Luğa et-Turkistâniyye” adıyla tercüme ve tahşiye etmiş ve yurt dışında neşrederek Türkistan’a ulaşmasını sağlamıştır. Türkistan’daki o dönemin siyasî ve dinî baskıları göz önünde bulundurulduğunda, Seyyid Mahmûd et-Tarazî’nin bu çabası onun değerini daha da artırmaktadır. Makalede Seyyid Mahmûd et-Tarazi’nin hayatını adadığı bu ve benzeri çabalarına özellikle işaret edilmiştir. Eserin adında Kur’an’ın çevrildiği dil olarak bahsedilen Türkistan dili ile ne kastedildiğini açıklığa kavuşturmak da makalenin amaçlarından birini oluşturmuştur. Makalede Tarazi’nin hayatı, ilmi faaliyetleri ve eserleri tanıtıldıktan sonra “Kur’an-ı Kerîm Mütercem ve Muhaşşâ bi’l-Luğa et-Turkistâniyye” isimli eseri çeşitli açılardan inceleme konusu edilmiştir.
