Abstract
A masjid is one of the most important signs of Islam and is a small brach of the Kaabah, the first place for worship ever built, as an Islamic sign. The Quranic verses and the practices of the Prophet show us the elevated degree of importance of mosques in the sight of Allah and His Messenger (p.b.u.h). Even thought its area of use has nowadays decreased, besides being the place of worship in early years of Islam, mosques had an important place in society as they were the venues where training and education would take place, political decisions were adopted, judicial matters were solved out and fruthermore they used to serve as the places where people would come together and be united. The high significance of mosques on individual and social basis and their wide area of influence had reflections on the narrations of Islamic sects (madhhab). A sect isolated the mosques that were built by its oppositions on the grounds that the architects of those mosques disseminated their political views and they caused dualism in society, and that partiucular sect expelled the followers of those sects from these mosques. According to imâmiyyah sources, worshipping was banned by Ali -who is regarded as the first imâm in imâmiyyah shi’ah- in the five mosques that were built in Kufa by Ash’as bin Qays al-Kindi, Jarir bin Abdullah, Sammak bin Mahramah, Shabs bin Rabi’ and Bani Taym, and these mosques gained reputation in imâmiyyah sources as “the cursed mosques”. Although some of these people were companions of the Prophet or helped Ali in his wars or even received compliment from Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) disaffirmation is found in Imâmiyyah Shi’ah narrations about them. This is because, in general, they displayed some acts against the imâm, and, in particular, they were not from imâmiyyah sect.
Kur’an’daki ayetler ve Hz. Peygamber’in uygulamaları, mescitlerin Allah katında ve Peygamber’i (s.a.v) nazarında ne derce ehemmiyete sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Ali tarafından, Eş‘as b. Peygamberin (s.a.s.) iltifatına mazhar olanlar olsa da genelde imâmın bazı kararlarına muhâlif davranışlarda bulunmaları, özelde ise; İmâmî akideden olmamaları sebebiyle Şî‘i İmâmî rivayetlerde haklarında cerh vârid olmuştur.
