THE AWARENESS OF TEXT STRUCTURE IN READING INSTRUCTION: THE CASE OF INFORMATIVE TEXTS

Abstract

Texts, which are a natural reflection of the human language and thought system, are linguistic and grammatical elements that are organized in a meaningful manner and in accordance with the general typological principles required by the text based on a complex network of relationships in every single layer of the textual structure rather than a simple string of words and ideas added together. Therefore, in the reading comprehension process, the way in which the audience can go through an efficient reading comprehension process and acquire knowledge out of the text as the basic output of the reading act is only possible by knowing how to analyze the texts established on this network of complex relations. In order to analyze the text, it is also necessary to identify the structural features that distinguish the text from others, that are related to how the feelings and ideas in the texts are transferred to the reader, and that allow access to the text type scheme by creating a focus window during the reading process and include these features in the reading education curriculum. Thus, the purpose of this study is to explore the link between the type of informative text and linguistic evidentiality, which is thought to contribute to the understanding of the difference among text types through reading, understanding, and evaluating informative texts within the reading comprehension process as a distinctive structural feature of the informative text, and describe the representations that emerge in this type of texts.

İnsan dil ve düşünce sisteminin doğal bir yansıması olan metinler eklerin, sözcük ya da düşüncelerin basit biçimde bir biri ardına eklenmesinin çok daha ötesinde, metinsel yapının her bir farklı katmanında, metin türünün gerekli kıldığı genel türsel ilkeler uyarınca ve anlamlı biçimde bir biri ardına eklemlenen, karmaşık ilişkiler ağı üzerine kurulmuş dilsel ve dilbilgisel unsurlardır. Bu nedenle okuma - anlama sürecinde, metin alıcısının etkin bir okuma - anlama süreci geçirebilmesi ve okuma ediminin temel çıktısı olarak metinlerden bilgi edinebilmesinin yolu ancak ve ancak karmaşık ilişkiler ağı üzerine kurulmuş olan metinlerin nasıl çözümleneceğini bilmesiyle mümkündür. Metni çözümlemenin yolu da bir metni diğerinden ayıran, metinde yer alan duygu ve düşüncelerin okuyucuya ne şekilde aktarıldığıyla ilgili olan ve ayrıca okuma sürecinde odak penceresi yaratarak okurun metin türü şemasına erişimine olanak tanıyan yapısal özelliklerin belirlenerek okuma eğitimiyle ilgili eğitim programlarına dâhil edilmesiyle mümkündür. Bu noktadan hareketle çalışmanın amacı, bilgilendirici metin türüne özgü ayırıcı yapısal bir özellik olarak okuma - anlama sürecinde bilgilendirici metinlerin okunmasına, anlaşılmasına, değerlendirilmesine ve metin türleri arasındaki farklığının kavranmasına katkı sağlayacağı düşünülen tanıtsallık ulamının, bilgilendirici metin türüyle olan ilişkisinin belirlenerek bu metin türünde sergilediği görünümlerinin betimlenmesidir.
