Abstract

Kenize Mourad dwells on the East-West relationship in general in her novels “Regards from the Dead Princess: The Novel of a Life” 1987 and “A Garden in Badalpur” 1998 . The image of “the other” shaped by this relationship emerges in the thoughts of the Western and Eastern characters in both novels. Historical, political and social events and cultural differences and prejudices define the context of "the other" image, which defines what is "I" or "We". Since these incidents are caused by invasion and colonialism and the triggering factor which cause these conflicts is the cultural differences, the relationship between "I" and "the other", therefore "the other" image is situated in a problematic and negative context.
