Abstract

Uzunköprü is a district of Edirne and the first Turkish city with strategic importance, founded on the edge of the Ergene River in order to facilitate the conquests of the Ottoman Empire in the Balkans. After the construction of Uzunköprü by Sultan II. Murad, in order to preserve the existence of the city the first reconstruction movements started and then many various kinds architectural works were built over time. Significant parts of these are fountains. As water structures, fountains are an important place in Anatolian Turkish Architecture. As a result of the research in this region, eleven fountains have been identified. In terms of chronology these were built in the timeframe ranging from the 15th century to the 21st century, all works belonging to the Ottoman period. Construction materials are mostly stone and partly brick. There are some which reflect the traces of unconscious interventions, as well as those that keep their original state. Just as there are street fountains, which are the most common group of Turkish architecture, especially there are some works in the form of a square fountain, which plays an important role in the construction of cities from the 16th century. Each exhibits the general characteristics of the period in which it was built. In our study, these fountains are introduced in detail in terms of plan, material, architectural and decorative features and also the importance of it in Anatolian Turkish Architecture has been revealed and also documented with drawings and photographs. The fountains that are more vulnerable to all kinds of damage than monumental works so we hope that looking forward to the attention of the representatives of Uzunköprü and show them the necessary care to protect them.

Özet

Uzunköprü, Edirne’ye bağlı bir ilçe konumundadır ve Osmanlı Devleti’nin Balkanlardaki fetihleri kolaylaştırmak amacı ile Ergene Nehri kenarına kurulmuş, stratejik öneme sahip ilk Türk şehridir. Sultan II. Murat tarafından Uzunköprü’nün inşasından sonra şehrin varlığını koruyabilmek için ilk imar hareketleri başlamış, ardından zaman içerisinde çeşitli türde pek çok mimari eser inşa edilmiştir. Bunların önemli bir kısmını da çeşmeler oluşturmaktadır. Çeşmeler su yapıları olarak Anadolu Türk Mimarisi içerisinde önemli bir yer teşkil eder. Bölgede gerçekleştirilen araştırmalar sonucu günümüze ulaşabilmiş on bir çeşme belirlenmiştir. Kronoloji bakımından 15. yüzyıldan 21. yüzyıla kadar uzanan zaman diliminde inşa edilmiş, tamamı Osmanlı Dönemine ait eserlerdir. İnşa malzemeleri çoğunlukla taş, kısmen de tuğladır. Orijinal halini muhafaza edenler olduğu gibi zamanla ve bilinçsizce yapılan müdahalelerin izlerini yansıtanlar da mevcuttur. Aralarında Türk Mimarisinin en yaygın gurubunu teşkil eden sokak çeşmeleri bulunduğu gibi özellikle 16. yüzyıldan itibaren şehirlerin yapılanmasında önemli rol üstlenen meydan çeşmesi niteliğinde eserler de mevcuttur. Her biri inşa edildiği dönemin genel karakteristik özelliklerini sergilemektedir. Çeşmeler, çalışmamızda plan, malzeme, mimari ve süsleme özellikleri bakımından ayrıntılı bir şekilde tek tek tanıtılarak, Anadolu Türk Mimarisi içerisindeki yeri ve önemi ortaya konmuş, ayrıca çizim ve fotoğraflarla da belgelenmeleri sağlanmıştır. Anıtsal eserlere nazaran daha dayanıksız ve her türlü tahribata açık olan çeşmelerin Uzunköprü’deki temsilcilerine dikkat çekerek daha fazla korunmaları ve yaşatılmaları hususunda gerekli titizliğin gösterilmesini umut ediyoruz.
