Design Problems and Solution Proposals in Muslim-Friendly Hotel Rooms in Antalya, Turkey

Abstract
The aim of this study is to offer design solutions to these problems in order to ensure that the Muslim-friendly hotel room design is structured to meet the needs of the visitors. Within the scope of the study this study, it is examined if the furnishings and the designs of the six Muslim-friendly hotels in Antalya are designed in compliance with the daily religious activities of the guests. And these Muslim friendly hotel rooms are also examined in the respect of their accordance with the rules that are maintained in the literature of Muslim-friendly hotel management. In this context, the problems experienced by the guests while performing their ablution and prayer duties were identified and design suggestions to facilitate them were developed and modeled with use of 3dsmax program. Solutions for positioning of the beds are also presented for the users who are uncomfortable with the idea of placing their feet to the direction of the qibla. In the study, the problems faced by disabled people while performing their religious duties were observed, and certain criteria were determined for these problems and solutions were offered. It is thought that this study will be an important reference for Muslim-friendly hotel investors and for the interior designers and architects who designing these hotels
Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı ülkemizde Müslüman-dostu otel odası tasarımının ziyaretçi ihtiyaçlarını karşılayacak şekilde yapılandırılmasının sağlanması amacıyla bu sorunlara tasarımsal çözüm önerileri sunmaktır. Çalışma kapsamında Antalya’da bulunan 6 adet Müslüman-dostu otelin odalarının, tasarımları ve tefrişleri ziyaretçilerinin günlük dini aktivitelerini yerine getirebilmeleri için uygunlukları ve Müslüman-dostu otelciliğe ilişkin literatürdeki kurallara uygunlukları açısından incelenmiştir. Bu inceleme sonucunda misafirlerin abdest alma ve namaz kılma vecibelerinin yerine getirirken yaşadıkları sorunlar tespit edilmiş ve bunları kolaylaştıracak tasarımsal önerileri 3dsmax programı kullanılarak modellenmiştir. Ayrıca ayaklarını kıble yönüne uzatmaktan rahatsız olduğunu bildiren kullanıcılar içinde otel odası içinde çözüm önerileri sunulmuştur. Çalışmada engelli bireylerin de dini vecibelerini yerine getirirken karşılaştıkları sorunlar gözlemlenerek bu sorunlar için de tasarımlar geliştirilerek çözüm önerileri sunulmuştur. Bu çalışmanın Müslüman-dostu otel yatırımcıları, bu otellerin tasarımını yapan iç mimar ve mimarlar için önemli bir referans olacağı düşünülmektedir.
