Evaluation Of Blue Code Interventions Outcomes

Abstract

The “code blue” is a tool of emergency management through which patients are to be resuscitated as soon as possible when cardiac and respiretory arrest occurs.Code blue is the sole coloured code used internationally for the same purpose in emergency cases. The objective of this study was to emphasize the significance, effectiveness and safety of the code blue intervention and to present the problems and the proposals of solutions related to the outcomes.The study was conducted by means of a retrospective (2013 and 2014) review of the code blue incident reports in Hatay Antakya State Hospital, a 477-bedded hospital . In the years 2013 and 2014 a total of 222 code blue events,110 male and 112 female were reported.The mean age of the patients subjected to code blue i ntervention was 70,3 years.Regarding the occurence of the code blue interventions in our hospital the most frequent place was the internal medicine ward (68/222),% 31),the most frequent period was 10-11 a.m.(20/222-% 9) and the average time to intervene was 1minutes 33 seconds.As the outcome of code blue interventions, 127 (57,2%) patient were dead, 86 (38,7%) patients were taken into the intensive care unit, 5 (2,3%) patients were referred to a university hospital and 4 (1,8%) patients were to be treated in his own ward.

Mavi Kod, ani dolaşım ve solunum durması olduğunda, hastaya en kısa sürede müdahale edilmesini sağlamaya yönelik acil durum yönetim aracıdır. Mavi Kod, dünyada aynı acil durum için aynı rengin kullanıldığı tek renkli koddur. Bu çalışmanın amacı; Mavi Kod uygulamasının önemini, etkinliğini ve güvenilirliğini vurgulamak ve uygulama sürecinde ortaya çıkan sorunlar ve bunlarla ilgili çözüm önerilerini paylaşmaktır. Çalışmamız 477 yataklı Hatay Antakya Devlet Hastanesinde uygulanmakta olan Mavi Kod çağrı sisteminin 2013 ve 2014 yıllarına ait Mavi Kod Bildirim Formlarının geriye dönük olarak incelenmesi ile yapılmıştır. Verilere göre 2013 ve 2014 yıllarında 222 mavi kod bildirimi yapılmış olup, 222 hastanın 110’u erkek, 112’si kadındır. Mavi Kod çağrısı yapılan hastaların yaş ortalaması 70,3’tür. Mavi Kod çağrısının en çok gerçekleştiği servis Dâhiliye Servisidir. En çok uygulandığı zaman dilimi 10-11 saatleridir. Ortalama varış süresi 1 dakika 33 saniyedir. Mavi Kod uygulanması sonucunda hastaların %57,2’si (127) ölüm , %38,7’si (86) yoğun bakıma alınmış, %2,3’ü (5) ileri merkeze sevk edilmiştir. Hastaların %1,8’inin (4) tedavisine yattığı serviste devam edilmiştir.
