NİHAL ATSIZ’S IDENTITY AS A SCIENTIST AND APPROACH OF THE TURKISH PRESS TO NİHAL ATSIZ

NİHÂL ATSIZ'IN BİLİM İNSANI KİMLİĞİ VE TÜRK BASININ NİHÂL ATSIZ'A YÖNELİK YAKLAŞIMI

Abstract

Nihâl Atsız is a scientist with works on literature, language and history. When the subject is about the Turkism, he is among the authors that firstly come to mind, together with persons such as Ziya Gökalp and Yusuf Akçura. In addition, he is an author, whose novels, especially “Bozkurtların Ölümü” have reached more than 100 editions. His readers and fans make him legendary, attributing to him the titles "Atsız the Ancestor", "Sky Wiseman". Such a dignification and adoption are out of question for any other writer. There are also authors that adopt the ideas advocated by Atsız and that reveal ideas in this direction, as well as authors against the ideas of Atsız, who have different world views. However, the profession of journalism requires to be neutral -no matter what the opinion is- and not to mislead readers. Therefore, a difference of opinion should not cause to distort and ignore the real knowledge, mislead the public and publish false news. This type of behaviour is contrary not only to the ethics and principles of the press-publication, but also to the principles of humanity. In this study, it will be examined how the press presents the allegation that Nihâl Atsız measures the skull and decides according to this measurement whether people are Turkish or not. The difference between “the reality” and “presentation of the press” will be revealed with the discourse analysis method. On the other hand, it will be revealed that Nihâl Atsız is not a character composed of only some extremes and resorting to unscientific methods, as presented in the media, with a literature review of both his own articles and scientific researches about him.

Özet

Nihâl Atsız edebiyat, dil ve tarih konusunda eserleri olan bir bilim insanıdır. Türkçülük denildiğinde Ziya Gökalp, Yusuf Akçura gibi isimlerle birlikte ilk akla gelen kalemlerdendir. Bunun yanı sıra Başta Bozkurtların Ölümü olmak üzere romanları 100'ün üzerinde baskıya ulaşan bir yazardır. Okurları, sevenleri kendisini "Atsız Ata", "Gök Bilge" gibi lakaplarla efsaneleştirmektedirler. Böylesi bir yüceltme ve benimseme başka hiç bir yazar için söz konusu değildir. Atsız'ın savunduğu görüşleri benimseyen ve bu doğrultuda fikir ürünleri ortaya koyan kalemler olduğu gibi farklı dünya görüşlerine sahip olan, Atsız'ın fikirlerine karşı olan kalemler de bulunmaktadır. Ancak gazetecilik mesleği, hangi görüşte olunursa olunsun tarafsız olmayı, okuru yanıltmamayı gerektirmektedir. Bu nedenle bu fikir karşıtlığının gerçek bilgiyi çarpıtma, görmezden gelme, kamuoyunu yanıltma, yalan haber yayınlama haline gelmemesi gerekmektedir. Bu tip bir davranış, değil basın-yayın etiği ve ilkelerinin, insanlık ilkelerinin de tamamen dışındadır. Bu araştırmada Nihâl Atsız'ın kafatası ölçtüğü ve insanların Türk olup olmadığına bu ölçüme göre karar verdiği iddiasının basında işleniş biçimi incelenecektir. "Gerçekte olan" ve "Basının sunduğu" arasındaki fark söylem analizi yöntemi ile ortaya konacaktır. Diğer taraftan Nihâl Atsız'ın medyada sunulduğu gibi gayri ilmi yollara başvuran, sadece bazı aşırılıklardan ibaret bir karakter olmadığı hem kendi makaleleri, hem de onun hakkında yazılan ilmi araştırmalara yönelik bir literatür taraması ile ortaya konulacaktır.
