Analysis of Texts and Images in the 5th Grade Social Studies Textbook in Terms of Technology Usage

5.Sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler Ders Kitabındaki Metinlerin ve Görsellerin Teknoloji Kullanımı Açısından İncelenmesi

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the use of technology in the Realizing Dreams unit in the 5th grade Social Studies Textbook. The document is a textbook used in the 2016-2017 school year. The qualitative research method and the case study design were used. The data were analyzed by content analysis. According to the research results, 3 categories and 67 codes were found in the analysis of the texts. The code of “Technological Tools Usage” was found to have the most frequent code whereas the code of “Institutions Established Depending On Technological Developments” was found to have the least frequent. There are 3 categories and 48 codes in the analysis of the images. The most frequent code was “Technological Tools Usage” while the least frequent one was "Technologists and Scientists" and “Use of Technological Tools and the Effect of Technology on Life”. It was found that the developing technological tools and the use of different technologies in different environments and the impact on the society are widespread and the information on institutions that are opened based on technological developments and have benefits for the society is not enough. In a similar way, it is determined that the visuals related to the current and changing technological tools are given weight and the visuals about the effect of technology on life are not sufficient. In conclusion, although there are some deficiencies, it mostly contains technology and it is determined that the contents are related to the use of technological tools.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, 5.Sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler Ders Kitabında yer alan Gerçekleşen Düşler ünitesinde teknoloji kullanımını incelemektir. Doküman olarak 2016-2017 öğretim yılında kullanılan 5.Sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler Ders Kitabı kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma modeli ve durum çalışması deseni kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler içerik analiziyle çözümlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda 5.Sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler Ders Kitabında yer alan Gerçekleşen Düşler ünitesinin teknoloji kullanımı ile ilgili öğeleri ortaya çıkarılmış ve bunlara uygun kod ve kategoriler oluşturulmuştur. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre 5.Sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler Ders Kitabında yer alan Gerçekleşen Düşler ünitesinde teknoloji kullanımı ile ilgili olarak metinlerin analizinde 3 kategori ve 67 kod bulunmuştur. Metinlerin analizinde “Teknolojik Araçların Kullanımı” koduna en çok, “Teknolojik Gelişmelere Bağlı Olarak Açılan Kurumlar” koduna en az yer verildiği görülmüştür. Teknoloji kullanımı ile ilgili olarak görsellerin analizinde ise 3 kategori ve 48 kod bulunmuştur. Görsellerin analizinde “Teknolojik Araçların Kullanımı” koduna en çok, “Mucitler ve Bilim İnsanları” ve dolaylı olarak da “Teknolojik Araçların Kullanımı ve Teknolojinin Yaşama Etkisi” koduna en az yer verildiği görülmüştür. 5.Sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler Ders Kitabında güncel ve değişen teknolojik araçlar ve farklı ortamlarda farklı teknolojilerin kullanımları ilgili bilgiler ile topluma etkisi konusuna ağırlık verildiği, teknolojik gelişmelere bağlı olarak açılan ve topluma yararı olan kurumlar noktasında yer alan bilgilerin ise yeterli olmadığı; güncel ve değişen teknolojik araçlarla ilgili görsellere ağırlık verildiği, teknolojinin yaşama etkisi ile ilgili görsellerin ise yeterli olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Genel olarak incelendiğinde 5.Sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler Ders Kitabında yer alan Gerçekleşen Düşler ünitesinde teknoloji kullanımı açısından eksiklikler olsa da çoğunlukla teknolojiyi barındırdığı ve içeriklerin teknolojik araçların kullanımına yönelik olduğu görülmüştür.
