Abstract

This paper represents the processes of an ongoing research around Lake Van Basin. The project has put various disciplines together such as archaeology, ethnology, ethnoarchaeology, ethnoarcheometry, art, experimental archaeology, and engineering. The main target of the research is to examine and re-produce the Urartian pottery by experimenting in the basin. Within this framework, the research has been carried out in the villages in Van and Bitlis, where the ceramic production processes continue in traditional ways. This methodology not only cast light on the Urartian pottery production, but also it allows to document today’s ceramic production activities in the region.
