Examining the Perceptions and Experiences of Conservatory Students Regarding Distance Education During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Konservatuvar Öğrencilerinin COVID-19 Salgını Sürecindeki Uzaktan Eğitim İle İlgili Algılarının ve Deneyimlerinin Araştırılması

Abstract

Due to Covid-19 cases in Turkey that began to be seen in March 2020, higher education institutions continued education through distance education using information technologies as of the end of the month. This study related to the pandemic process is based on examining the perceptions and experiences of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University State Conservatory students regarding distance education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings are expected to enable practitioners to develop a vision for distance education. In the descriptive study that has been conducted with qualitative data, the participants are second, third, and fourth year undergraduate students. The results of this study described the student views that are grouped as positive and negative views. In general, it is stated that there is a performance loss in applied areas, so educators and managers are suggested to provide motivation to the students and give feedback more frequently. On the other hand, distance education has paved the way for students to enable them develop skills such as doing research, time management, and self-regulation.

Özet

Türkiye’de Mart 2020 tarihinde ortaya çıkan Covid-19 vakaları nedeniyle yükseköğretim kurumları ay sonu itibariyle eğitim öğretimi, bilişim teknolojileri kullanılarak uzaktan sürdürülmüştür. Pandemi döneminde yapılan bu çalışma, Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa Üniversitesi Devlet konservatuvarı öğrencilerinin COVID-19 salgını sürecinde uzaktan eğitim ile ilgili algılarının ve deneyimlerinin araştırılmasına dayanmaktadır. Bulguların; uygulayıcılara uzaktan eğitim ile ilgili vizyon geliştirme imkânı sağlaması beklenmektedir. Nitel verilerle çalışılan betimsel çalışmada katılımcılar; kurumun lisans iki, üç ve dördüncü sınıf öğrencileridir. Bu çalışmanın sonuçları, olumlu ve olumsuz olarak kesimlenerek gruplandırılan öğrenci görüşlerini açıklamıştır. Genel olarak uygulamalı alanlarda performans kaybı yaşandığının belirtilmesinden hareketle, eğitimcilere ve yöneticilere; öğrenciye motivasyon sağlama ve değerlendirme dönütlerini daha sık vermeleri önerilmiştir. Diğer taraftan uzaktan eğitim; öğrencilere araştırma yapma, zaman yönetimi ve öz düzenleme gibi beceriler kazandırmıştır.
