An Inquiry on the Prophet Abraham’s Attributes in the Qur’ān in Terms of Moral Values

Hz. İbrahim’in Kur’an’daki Sıfatlarının Ahlaki Değerler Açısından İncelenmesi

Abstract

Prophethood, which is one of the main pillars of Islamic creed,refers to the transmission of God Almighty’s message to people throughmessengers. Prophets, who are the messengers of God, are distinguishedservants and had been sent as both examples and leaders for people. Forthis reason, prophets are frequently mentioned in the Qur’ān and theyare described with many different attributes. Knowing these attributes inthe Qur’ān plays a complementary role in the formation of the identityand personality of a believer in terms of both belief and morality. In thiscontext, it is significant to determine the attributes of Prophet Abrahammentioned in the Qur’ān and to determine the behavioral patterns theycontain. As an important role model for believers, Prophet Abraham ischaracterized by many attributes in the Qur’ān. While some of them arewithin the scope of the mission of messenger used for other prophets,some of them are peculiar to Prophet Abraham which are unique for himboth as a servant and as a messenger. In this study, as a prominent figureof the struggle of the unity (tawhīd), some of Prophet Abraham’s theseattributes mentioned in the Qur’ān, especially the attributes of believers,which contain the moral principles that must be adopted during theircommunication with God Almighty and the members of the society theyare in, will be elaborated on. Indeed, these attributes which are embodiedin the personality of Abraham have important place in revealing thefundamental moral behavior of an exemplary and leading character anda distinguished servant of God.

Özet

İslam inancının esaslarından olan nübüvvet, Yüce Allah’ın insanlara elçiler vasıtasıyla mesajının aktarılmasını ifade etmektedir. Allah’ın elçileri olan peygamberler, seçkin kullar olup insanlar için hem örnek hem de önder olarak gönderilmişlerdir. Bu nedenledir ki Kur’an’da peygamberler sıklıkla zikredilmiş ve birçok farklı sıfat ile nitelendirilmiştir. Kur’an’da mevcut bu sıfatların bilinmesi, hem inanç hem de ahlak bakımından mümin bir bireyin kimlik ve kişiliğin oluşturulmasında tamamlayıcı bir rol oynamaktadır. Bu bağlamda Kur’an’da en güzel örnek olarak nitelendirilen ve Allah’ın dost edindiği Hz. İbrahim’in Kur’an’da geçen sıfatlarının tespit edilip, bunların içerdikleri davranış şekillerinin belirlenmesi önem arz etmektedir. Mümin şahsiyetler için çok önemli bir rol model olan Hz. İbrahim, Kur’an’da birçok sıfat ile nitelendirilmiştir. Bunlardan bazısı diğer peygamberler için de kullanılan elçilik görevinin kapsamında bulunan sıfatlarken, diğer bazısı Hz. İbrahim’e has olan hem bir kul hem de bir elçi olarak onun alâmet-i fârikası olan sıfatlardır. Bu çalışmada tevhid mücadelesinin önemli ismi Hz. İbrahim’in Kur’an’da mevcut bu sıfatlarından özellikle mümin bireylerin hem Yüce Allah hem de içinde bulunduğu toplumun bireyleri ile iletişimi sırasında takınması gereken ahlaki ilkeleri barındıran sıfatları üzerinde durulacaktır. Nitekim bu sıfatlar, Hz. İbrahim’in şahsiyetinde somutlaşan, Allah’ın mümtaz bir kulu, örnek ve önder bir karakterin sahip olduğu esas ahlaki davranışları ortaya çıkarılmasında önemli bir yere sahiptir.
