METAPHORIC PERCEPTIONS OF TEACHER CANDIDATES ABOUT "TEACHER" AND "STUDENT" CONCEPT DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

ÖĞRETMEN ADAYLARININ COVİD-19 PANDEMİ SÜRECİNDEKİ “ÖĞRETMEN” VE “ÖĞRENCİ” KAVRAMLARINA İLİŞKİN METAFORİK ALGILARI

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the perceptions of teacher candidates regarding the concepts of "teacher" and "student" in the Covid-19 pandemic process with the help of metaphors. The research data were obtained from 140 teacher candidates who continue their education in the special education department of Anadolu University in Eskişehir province in the 2020-2021 academic year. Content analysis technique, one of the qualitative data analysis techniques, was used in the analysis of the research data. In the study, pre-service teachers developed a total of 78 metaphors under 9 different categories regarding the concept of "teacher", and a total of 63 metaphors under 9 different categories regarding the concept of "student". With the effect of distance education during the Covid-19 pandemic process on the concept of "teacher", some different categories that are less emphasized in the literature (as person struggling with difficulties and constantly working, designer and artist, anxious person and who do not know what to do) have also emerged. From the student's point of view, in this period, it was understood that the concept of "student" was perceived as someone needing love, attention and support, obeying and following instructions, developing himself, researching and building knowledge, anxious person and who do not know what to do.

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, öğretmen adaylarının Covid-19 pandemi sürecindeki “öğretmen” ve “öğrenci” kavramlarına ilişkin algılarının metaforlar yardımıyla belirlenmesidir. Araştırma verileri 2020-2021 eğitim-öğretim döneminde Eskişehir ili Anadolu Üniversitesinde özel eğitim bölümünde öğrenimine devam eden 140 öğretmen adayından elde edilmiştir. Araştırma verilerinin analizinde nitel veri çözümleme tekniklerinden içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada öğretmen adayları “öğretmen” kavramına ilişkin 9 farklı kategori altında toplam 78 metafor, “öğrenci” kavramına ilişkin olarak ise yine 9 farklı kategori altında toplam 63 metafor geliştirmişlerdir. “Öğretmen” kavramına Covid-19 pandemi sürecindeki uzaktan eğitimin etkisiyle alan yazında daha az vurgulanan bazı farklı kategoriler (zorluklarla mücadele eden ve sürekli çalışan, tasarımcı ve sanatçı, tedirgin ve ne yapacağını bilemeyen öğretmen) de ortaya çıkmıştır. Öğrenci açısından ise bu dönemde “öğrenci” kavramının sevgi, ilgi ve desteğe ihtiyaç duyan, itaat eden ve talimatlara uyan, kendisini geliştiren, araştıran ve bilgiyi inşa eden, tedirgin ve ne yapacağını bilmeyen olarak algılandığı anlaşılmıştır.
