Abstract

One of the most important motor abilities that is needed in sports is the speed, or moving very quickly (Bompa, 2001). Technique in soccer refers to be ready with being equipped with movement skills and position possibilities to possess and maintain the ball under the toughest match conditions (TFF, 1991). The aim of this study was examinate the relationship between the speed and dribbling abilities of soccer players. 22 amateur soccer players with an average age of 21.56 years, a height average of 179.17 cm, a body weight average of 73.98 kg and an average of 6 years of training voluntarily participated to this study. Measurements were made at the end of the pre-season. Two different dribbling tests and with 10 m and 30 m sprint tests were performed, and determined by photocells (Newtest 300 test battery). Each test was repeated twice and the best results were recorded. Correlation analysis in SPSS (Ver.14) program was used in the analysis of the obtained data. The level of significance was accepted as 0.05. As a result; the relationship between the sprint times of 10 m and 30 m of amateur footballers and the duration of dribbling was not statistically significant. In this case; soccer players' dribbling times may be influenced by different features such as technical, skill and coordination rather than speed characteristics.
