A THEORETICAL STUDY ON THE COMPARISON OF DARK TOURISM DESTİNATİONS IN EUROPE AND TURKEY

AVRUPA’DAKİ VE TÜRKİYE’DEKİ HÜZÜN TURİZMİ DESTİNASYONLARININ KARŞILAŞTIRMASI ÜZERİNE TEORİK BİR ÇALIŞMA

Abstract

The changes that have taken place in the tourism sector in recent years increase the tendency towards alternative tourism types. In this context, dark tourism (sad tourism) is a new type of alternative tourism that is increasing day by day. Dark tourism, which has a very different direction from resting, having fun and having good time, is filled with grief and sorrow. The past war, death, accident, earthquake, etc. Tragic events have a profound impact on the transfer of social memory to advanced generations in participating in dark tourism. The aim of this study is to determine the dark tourism destinations in Europe and Turkey and to create an academic awareness so that Turkey can become an important dark tourism destination in the world. By applying a comprehensive content analysis method in the study, dark tourism destinations in Europe and Turkey have been identified. By means of the results obtained from the study, it was aimed to make the investments necessary for the dark tourism destinations that Turkey had and to share the proposals developed at the point of providing more income to the country's economy. This is the estimate obtained from the study; As dark tourism destinations in Turkey are preserved like European ones and turned into touristic destinations, the tourism profile coming from Turkey will change in a positive way, and the recognition of Turkey and the tourism incomes will be increased.

Özet

Son yıllarda turizm sektöründe meydana gelen değişimler alternatif turizm türlerine olan yönelimi arttırmaktadır. Bu bağlamda hüzün turizmi (dark turizm) gün geçtikçe popülaritesi artan yeni alternatif turizm türlerindendir. Turizmin doğası gereği dinlenmek, eğlenmek, hoşça vakit geçirmekten çok farklı bir yönelişe sahip olan dark turizm, içinde keder ve üzüntüyü barındırmaktadır. Geçmişte yaşanmış olan savaş, ölüm, kaza, deprem, vb. trajik olaylar dark turizmine katılanlarda toplumsal belleğin ileri nesillere aktarılmasında son derece önemli bir etki yaratmaktadır.Yapılan bu çalışmanın amacı, Avrupa’daki ve Türkiye’deki dark turizm destinasyonlarını tespit ederek, Türkiye’nin dünyada önemli bir dark turizm destinasyonu olabilmesi için akademik anlamda bir farkındalık yaratılmasının sağlanmasıdır. Çalışmada kapsamlı bir içerik analizi yöntemi uygulanarak, Avrupa’daki ve Türkiye’deki dark turizm destinasyonları tespit edilmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda elde edilen verilerden yola çıkılarak, Türkiye’nin sahip olduğu dark turizm destinasyonlarına gerekli olan yatırımlar yapılarak, ülke ekonomisine bu alanda daha fazla gelir sağlanması noktasında geliştirilen önerilerin paylaşılması hedeflenmiştir. Bu çalışmadan elde edilen verilerle; Türkiye’deki dark turizm destinasyonlarının da Avrupa’dakiler gibi korunarak turistik destinasyon haline getirilmesiyle, Türkiye’ye gelen turist profilinin olumlu yönde değişeceği, Türkiye’nin tanınırlığının ve turizm gelirlerinin artacağı sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır.
