THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND TOURISM: AN EVALUATION ON TR61 REGION

Abstract
Regional development refers to an increase in the welfare level of a region through the stimulation of economic and social potential. In the 1960s, especially in Turkey, with the planned period, the tourism industry began to grasp the importance.With the policiessupporting tourism in the 1980s, the share of the tourism sector in the GNP has increased steadily.The view that tourism is one of the factors that provide economic growth and the positive effects on export and economic growth relationship increase the importance of the sector.Positive effects on macro variables such as employment in the general economy, external balance of payments, export rates are mentioned.At the regional level, the tourism sector is being used as a policy tool to reduce regional differences in development.In this study TR61 region has been evaluated with tourism potential and the measures that can be taken to improve the sector are studied.
Özet
Bölgesel kalkınma ekonomik ve toplumsal potansiyelin uyarılması aracılığıyla bir bölgenin refah seviyesindeki artışı ifade etmektedir. 1960’lar Türkiye’de özellikle planlı döneme geçiş ile birlikte turizm sektörünün öneminin kavranmaya başladığı yıllardır. 1980’li yıllar itibariyle destekleyici politikalar sayesinde GSMH içindeki turizm sektörünün payı giderek artmıştır. Turizmin ekonomik büyümeyi sağlayan sektörlerden biri olduğu görüşü, ihracat ve ekonomik büyüme ilişkisi üzerindeki olumlu etkileri bu sektörün önemini daha da arttırmaktadır. Ayrıca ekonomi içerisindeki istihdam, dış ödemeler dengesi, ihracat oranları gibi makro değişkenler üzerindeki pozitif yönlü etkileri söz konusudur. Bu açıdan turizm sektörü bölgelerarası gelişmişlik farklılıklarının azaltılmasında bir politika aracı olarak kullanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada TR61 bölgesinin turizm potansiyeli değerlendirilmiş ve sektörün gelişebilmesi yönünde alınabilecek tedbirler sıralanmıştır.
