TWO “ODD” POETS: MUZAFFER TAYYİP USLU AND RÜŞTÜ ONUR

Abstract

In the late 1930s, there was an essential change in the Turkish poetry with the beginning of Garipmovement. Garip poets who opposed the tradition in poetry,have began to use poetry elements suchas theme, language and form in a new and unique way. This situation was reflected in the literaryenvironment, Garip understanding in the 1940s became one of the most popular and widespreadpoetry trends of the period. Like many young poets influenced by the Garip movement -whosepioneers were Orhan Veli Kanık, Oktay Rifat and Melih Cevdet Anday- Muzaffer Tayyip Uslu andRüştü Onur, who started to write poetry in the second half of the 1930s, have followed the Garippoetry in terms of structure, theme, language and harmony elements. Uslu and Onur, who have beenreferred to as “poets from Zonguldak”, have been evulated together in our literature history sincethey had a similar understanding of poetry. Due to the shortness of their life stories, they could writesmall number of poems, but they have an important place among young poets affected by Garippoetry. The fact that they were away from the literature settings and died at a young age caused theinsufficient attention that they have received on their role and importance in the Garip movement. In this study which aims to fulfill a need in the field of poetry, the poems of Uslu and Onur will beexamined under various headings. The points where they have in common with the poetry of Garipand the points where they differ from each other will be identified. The opinions of the other writersand poets about them will be mentioned, and therefore a detailed evaluation will be made about theirpoetry universe.

1930’ların sonundan itibaren etkili olmaya başlayan Garip hareketiyle birlikte Türk şiirinde köklü bir değişim yaşanır. Şiirde geleneğe karşı çıkan Garip şairleri; tema, dil, biçim gibi şiir unsurlarını yeni ve özgün bir tarzda kullanır. Bu durum, edebiyat ortamına da yansımış ve 1940’larda Garip anlayışı, dönemin en popüler ve yaygın şiir eğilimlerinden biri hâline gelmiştir. Orhan Veli Kanık, Oktay Rifat ve Melih Cevdet Anday’ın öncüsü oldukları Garip hareketinden etkilenen birçok genç şair gibi 1930’ların ikinci yarısında şiir yazmaya başlayan Muzaffer Tayyip Uslu ve Rüştü Onur; yapı, tema, dil ve ahenk unsurları açısından Garip şiirini takip ederler. Zonguldaklı şairler olarak anılan Uslu ve Onur, birbirlerine benzer bir şiir anlayışına sahip oldukları için edebiyat tarihimizde genellikle bir arada ele alınıp değerlendirilmişlerdir. Hayat hikâyelerinin kısalığı sebebiyle az sayıda şiir yazabilseler de Garip şiirinden etkilenen genç şairler arasında önemli bir yerleri vardır. Ancak edebiyat ortamından uzak olmaları ve genç yaşta vefat etmeleri, bu iki şairin Garip hareketi içindeki rolleri ve önemleri üzerinde yeterince durulmamasına neden olmuştur. Şiir sahasındaki bir eksikliği giderme amacında olan bu çalışmada, Uslu ve Onur’un şiirleri çeşitli başlıklar altında incelenecek, Garip şiiriyle kesiştikleri ve ayrıldıkları noktalar belirlenecek, diğer yazar ve şairlerin kendileri hakkındaki görüşlerine değinilecek ve böylece şiir evrenleriyle ilgili ayrıntılı bir değerlendirme yapılacaktır.
