TRIANGLE DESIRE IN YAKUP KADRİ’S KİRALIK KONAK NOVEL

Abstract
The question of whether the person himself or herself chooses the objects he desires in a world wherethe individual is in the center is the essence of his theory based on the novel characters of the Frenchtheorist Rene Girard. Girard focuses on the non-spontaneous nature of desire in his book Deceit,Desire and The Novel: Self and Other in Literary Structure published in 1961. The aim of this articleis to analyze Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu’s novel Kiralık Konak in the context of Girard’s workand in the light of “triangle desire” theory. In this respect, it was argued that the mimetic structurebetween their desires, wishes and aims was tried to be solved by focusing on the “mediator” conceptwhich directs the behaviors of the characters in the novel in the study and that the Kiralık Konak is awork that falls into the category of “novelistic truth” with this characteristic of triangle desire.

Bireyin merkezde olduğu bir dünyada arzu ettiği nesneleri gerçekten insanın kendisinin mi seçtiği yoksa bunun bir yanılsama mı olduğu sorusu, Fransız kuramcı Rene Girard’ın roman karakterleri üzerinden temellendirdiği kuramının özünü oluşturur. Girard, 1961’de yayımlanan Romantik Yalan ve Romansal Hakikat: Edebi Yapıda Ben ve Öteki adlı eserinde, arzunun kendiliğinden olmayan doğası üzerinde durur. Bu makalenin amacı Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu’nun Kiralık Konak adlı romanını Girard’ın söz konusu eseri çerçevesinde ve “üçgen arzu” kuramı ışığında analiz etmektir. Bu itibarla çalışmada romandaki karakterlerin davranışlarını yönlendiren “dolayımlayıcı” kavramı üzerinde durularak, onların arzu, istek ve amaçları arasındaki mimetik yapı çözümlenmeye çalışılmış ve Kiralık Konak’ın, üçgen arzuyu kurcalayan bu özelliğiyle, “romansal hakikat” kategorisine giren bir eser olduğu tezi savunulmuştur
