Comparison of Attitudes of Nurses Working in Primary and Secondary Care towards Ageism

Birinci ve İkinci Basamakta Çalışan Hemşirelerin Yaşlı Ayrımcılığına İlişkin Tutumlarının Karşılaştırılması

Abstract

Purpose: This study was conducted to compare the attitudes of nurses, working in primary and secondary care towards ageism. Material and Methods: The study population of this descriptive type research consists of the nurses working in 27 family health centers in the Erzurum and Research Hospital in the province of Erzurum, Turkey. Without sample selection, 210 nurses working in secondary health care and 90 nurses working in primary health care, who agreed to participate in the research, were included in the study. The study data were collected using a Personal Information Form and the Ageism Attitude Scale. Results: In the study, the mean Ageism Attitude Scale total score was 82.13±8.69 in nurses working in primary health care institutions, and 82.47±9.91 in nurses working in secondary health care institutions, the score averages were found to be close to each other, and the difference between them was not statistically significant (p>0.05). In the nurses working in primary health care institutions, the mean Ageism Attitude Scale total score was statistically significant in terms of age, income status, marital status, family type and the place of residence of elderly people in the family; however, only the marital status and income status were significant in the nurses working in secondary health care institutions (p

Amaç: Bu araştırma, birinci ve ikinci basamakta çalışan hemşirelerin yaşlı ayrımcılığına ilişkin tutumlarını karşılaştırmak amacı ile yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu araştırma tanımlayıcı türde olup evrenini üniversite hastanesi ve merkezdeki 27 aile sağlığı merkezinde çalışan hemşireler oluşturmuştur. Örneklem seçimine gidilmeyip çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden ikinci basamak sağlık kurumu çalışanı 210, birinci basamak sağlık kurumu çalışanı 90 hemşire ile çalışılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri kişisel bilgi formu ve “Yaşlı Ayrımcılığı Tutum Ölçeği” kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmada, YATÖ toplam puan ortalamasının, birinci basamak sağlık kurumunda çalışan hemşirelerde 82,13±8,69, ikinci basamakta ise 82,47±9,91 olduğu saptanmış olup puan ortalamalarının birbirine yakın olduğu ve aralarındaki farkın istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olmadığı görülmüştür (p>0.05). Birinci basamak sağlık kurumu çalışanı olan hemşirelerde yaş, gelir durumu, medeni durum, aile tipi, ailede yaşlıların yaşadığı yer yönünden YATÖ toplam puan ortalaması istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmasına karşın ikinci basamak sağlık kurumu çalışan hemşirelerinde medeni durum ve gelir durumu anlamlı bulunmuştur (p
