Their Opinions on Problems That Foreign Language Teachers Face in the Classroom

Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to determine the problems of foreign language teachers in the classroom. In the study, the quantitative research method was used. The views of the foreign language teachers were taken by interview and analyzed via content analysis. The study group consisted of 26 foreign teachers working in private language schools in Kadıköy İstanbul. According to results of the study, it’s determined that the problems are mostly caused by student in the classroom. The foreign language teachers expressed their ideas that pre-determining the problems in the classroom affects the students foreign languages attitudes positively and motivate them. According to the findings of the research, it’s determined that the strategies are used by teachers such as detecting problems and establishing the rules in the classroom are mostly used by teachers for the management of unwanted behaviors.
Özet
Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, yabancı dil öğretmenlerinin sınıf yönetiminde karşılaştıkları problemleri belirlemektir. Çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Yabancı dil öğretmenlerinin görüşleri, görüşme tekniğiyle elde edilmiş ve içerik analizi ile çözümlenmiştir. Çalışma grubunu İstanbul ili Kadıköy ilçesinde özel dil okullarında görev yapan 26 yabancı dil öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlara göre, sınıf içerisinde var olan problemlerin çoğunlukla öğrencilerden kaynaklanan problemler olduğu saptanmıştır. Yabancı dil öğretmenleri, sınıfta meydana gelen problemlerin önceden saptanmasının, öğrencilerin yabancı dil tutumlarını olumlu yönde etkileyeceğine ve öğrencileri motive edeceğini yönelik görüşlerini ifade etmişlerdir. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre, sınıfta istenmeyen davranışların yönetilmesinde çoğunlukla problemleri saptama ve kuralları belirleme gibi stratejilerin öğretmenler tarafından kullandıkları belirlenmiştir.
