INVESTIGATING THE VIEWS OF STUDENTS RELATED TO THE EFFECT OF SCHOOL VARIABLES UPON ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN TERMS OF VARIOUS VARIABLES

Abstract
In this study, how students perceived the effect of various school variables considered as efficient on their success and/or failure upon student success was emphasized. In this sense, basic school variables that affected the success of students were grouped under 4 sub-dimensions as “environment/climate of the school,” “manner of students towards the students,” social potential of the students,” and “physical structure of the school and attitude of school managers.” The research was descriptive and screening model based because of aiming to explain the relationships between the cases and whether the relationships changed according to some variables. The study group of the research included 420 high school students studying at İlksan Anatolian High School in 2016-2017 academic year. The data were analyzed performing statistical processes such as arithmetic average, t-test, one-way ANOVA, frequency, percentage and standard deviation. As result of the analyses, it was determined that the highest average was on manner of teachers towards the students when the answers of the students for each dimension were analyzed. Furthermore, it was concluded that the views of the high school students related to the effect of school variables upon student success differed significantly in terms of gender in favor of female students and level of grade. Offers were suggested in accordance with obtained results.
Özet
Bu çalışmada, öğrencilerin başarı ve/veya başarısızlıkları üzerinde etkili olduğu düşünülen çeşitli okul değişkenlerinin öğrenci başarısı üzerindeki etkisinin öğrenci tarafından nasıl algılandığı üzerinde durulmuştur. Bu kapsamda, öğrencilerin başarısını etkileyen temel okul değişkenleri “okulun ortamı/iklimi”, “Öğretmenlerin öğrenciye yaklaşımları”, “Öğrencinin sosyal potansiyeli” ve “okulun fiziki yapısı ve okul yönetiminin tutumu” olmak üzere 4 alt boyutta toplanmıştır. Durumlar arasındaki ilişkileri ve bu ilişkilerin bazı değişkenlere göre değişip değişmediğini açıklamayı hedef aldığından betimsel nitelikli, tarama modeline dayalı bir araştırmadır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2016-2017 öğretim yılında İlksan Anadolu Lisesinde öğrenim gören 420 lise öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS istatistik programından yararlanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Veriler, aritmetik ortalama, t-testi, tek yönlü ANOVA, frekans, yüzde ve standart sapma gibi istatistiki işlemler yapılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın, “Lise öğrencilerinin okul değişkenlerinin öğrenci başarısı üzerindeki etkisine yönelik görüşleri nasıldır?” şeklindeki birinci alt problemine yönelik yapılan analizler neticesinde, anket maddelerinin her bir boyutuna verilen öğrenci cevapları incelendiğinde en yüksek ortalamanın öğretmenlerin öğrencilere yaklaşımı boyutunda olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca lise öğrencilerinin okul değişkenlerinin öğrenci başarısı üzerindeki etkisine yönelik görüşlerinin sınıf düzeyine ve kız öğrenciler lehine olacak şekilde cinsiyete göre anlamlı olarak farklılaştığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar doğrultusunda birtakım önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
