AN ANALYSIS OF THE VOCATIONAL COLLEGE STUDENTS' COMMUNICATION SKILLS IN TERMS OF SEVERAL VARIABLES

MESLEK YÜKSEKOKULU ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN İLETİŞİM BECERİLERİNİN ÇEŞİTLİ DEĞİŞKENLER AÇISINDAN İNCELENMESİ

Abstract

The overall aim of this research was to explore vocational college students’ communication skills in terms of several variables. The research utilized descriptive survey model. The population of the research consisted of 1692 students learning at Göksun Vocational School in Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University during the fall semester of 2017-2018 academic year. The research sample held a total of 248 students who studied computer programming, child development, map and cadastre, land registry and cadastre, first aid and emergency and who were selected by simple random sampling method. Research findings revealed that the communication skills of the students were generally above the moderate level. Besides, a statistically significant difference was identified across the students’ communication skills in terms of their gender, grade point average and internet experience. However, the students’ communication skills were found to be free from any significant difference depending on their department, their place of residence, family income levels, the number of social media accounts they used and the purposes for internet use.

Özet

Bu araştırmada; Meslek Yüksekokulunda öğrenim gören öğrencilerin iletişim becerilerini çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla araştırma, betimsel tarama modelinde desenlenmiştir. Araştırmanın evrenini, 2017-2018 eğitim öğretim yılı güz döneminde Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam Üniversitesi Göksun Meslek Yüksekokulunda öğrenim gören 1692 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Örneklemini ise bu evrenden basit tesadüfî örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen bilgisayar programcılığı, çocuk gelişimi, harita ve kadastro, tapu ve kadastro, ilk ve acil yardım bölümlerinde öğrenim gören 248 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma sonucunda öğrencilerin iletişim becerilerinin genel olarak orta üstü düzeyde olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Ayrıca öğrencilerin cinsiyetlerine, genel not ortalamalarına ve internet deneyimlerine göre anlamlı farklılaşma tespit edilmiştir. Fakat öğrencilerin iletişim becerileri öğrenim gördükleri bölüme, ikamet ettikleri yere, aile gelir düzeylerine, kullandıkları sosyal medya hesap sayısına ve internet kullanım amaçlarına göre incelendiğinde anlamlı farklılaşmaya rastlanılmamıştır.
