Application of Henderson’s Model in Management of Nursing Care: A Case Diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer

Hemşirelik Bakımının Yönetiminde Henderson Hemşirelik Modeli’nin Uygulanması: Pankreas Kanseri Tanılı Bir Olgu

Abstract

Pancreatic cancer is a disease that requires a holistic approach during diagnosis, treatment, the course of disease and the care stages and the quality of life of the patient can be improved with comprehensive evaluation, continuous observation and appropriate treatment. Because the prognosis is poor and life expectancy is short, the aim of nursing care is to relieve pain and discomfort, to maintain nutrition, to provide skin care, to support the patient for coping with the psychological effects of the disease and physical problems. Virginia Henderson defined effective nursing care to contribute health, recovery or peaceful death that meeting physiological, psychological, socio-cultural, spiritual and developmental human needs. Nurse and patient work together to meet these needs and to achieve individual-centered goals. It is considered that the model can be applied in nursing care of pancreatic cancer because it is to be human-centered and it reflects the essence of nursing profession very well. In this case report, a nursing care plan was developed using the Henderson nursing model for a 38-year-old male patient with pancreatic cancer. It was aimed to provide nursing care based on the Henderson nursing model with a holistic approach in a patient with pancreatic cancer and to demonstrate the usability of the model.

Özet

Pankreas kanseri tanı, tedavi, hastalığın seyri ve bakım aşamalarında bütüncül yaklaşım gerektiren, kapsamlı bir değerlendirme, sürekli gözlem ve uygun tedavi ile hastanın mevcut yaşam kalitesinin arttırılabileceği bir hastalıktır. Prognozun kötü ve beklenen yaşam süresinin kısa olması nedeniyle hemşirelik bakımının amacı ağrı ve rahatsızlığın giderilmesine, beslenmenin sürdürülmesine, cilt bakımına, hastalığın psikolojik etkileri ve fiziksel sorunlar ile baş etmesine destek olmaktır. Virginia Henderson sağlığa, iyileşmeye ya da huzurlu ölüme katkı sağlamak için etkili bir hemşirelik bakımını fizyolojik, psikolojik, sosyokültürel, spiritüel ve gelişimsel insan gereksiniminin karşılanması olarak tanımlamıştır. Hemşire ve hastası bu gereksinimleri karşılamak ve birey merkezli hedeflere ulaşmak için birlikte çalışmaktadır. Modelin, hemşirelik mesleğinin özünü çok iyi yansıtması ve insan odaklı olması bakımından pankreas kanserinin hemşirelik bakımında uygulanabileceği düşünülmektedir. Bu olgu sunumunda, pankreas kanseri tanısı alan 38 yaşında bir erkek hastada Henderson hemşirelik modeli kullanılarak hemşirelik bakım planı oluşturuldu. Pankreas kanseri tanısı alan bir hastada Henderson hemşirelik modeline temellendirilmiş, bütüncül bir bakış açısıyla hemşirelik bakımının verilmesi ve modelin kullanılabilirliğinin gösterilmesi amaçlandı.
