Abū Saīd al-Khādimī’s Treatise Entitled “Lā Yerudd al-Qadā’ illā al-Duā”: Critical Edition, Translation and Evaluation

Abstract
This article is about the treatise named “Lā Yerudd al-Qadā’ illa al-Duā” by Abū Saīd Muḥammed ibn Muṣṭafa al-Khādimī (d. 1176/1762), one of the Ottoman scholars in the eighteenth century. In this study, the analysis, translation, and evaluation of the treatise which is based on the theological, philosophical, rhetorical, and logical scientific interpretation of the hadith “nothing repels the divine decree but supplication, and nothing increases life span but righteousness” is done. The issue of the relationship between prayer-qadā’/destiny and the prolongation of lifespan with goodness, which has been the subject of discussion in the course of history and is still up-to-date in terms of its nature, is discussed in the treatise. The author evaluates the effect of prayer on qadā/destiny in the context of “inevitable” and “undecided” qada. On the other hand, within the framework of the concepts of “time of death”, “moment”, “time”and “lifespan”, the issue that lifespan can be increased by goodness is discussed in detail. al-Khādimī also examines the provision contained in the hadith in question and ends the treatise by raising objections to Mu‘tazila, who argues that prayers are of no use. It is aimed that this treatise, which is the subject of the article by making a critical publication on the four manuscripts that we can identify, will be brought to the literature and contribute to the debates of prayer-qadā’/destiny, which is still up-to-date.

Bu makale, XVIII. yüzyıl Osmanlı âlimlerinden Ebû Saîd Muhammed b. Mustafa el-Hâdimî’nin (ö. 1176/1762) “Lâ Yeruddu’l-kazâ illa’d-duâ” adlı risâlesini konu edinmektedir. Çalışmada “kazâyı ancak duâ geri çevirir ve ömrü de ancak iyilik uzatır” hadisini Hâdimî’nin, kelâm, felsefe, belâgat ve mantık ilimleri açısından yorumladığı risâlesinin tahkik, tercüme ve değerlendirilmesi yapılmaktadır. Risâlede tarihi süreçte tartışılan ve mahiyeti itibariyle günümüzde de güncelliğini koruyan duâ-kazâ/kader ilişkisi ve iyiliklerle ömrün uzaması konusu ele alınmaktadır. Müellif duânın kazâ/kadere etkisini “mübrem” ve “muallak” kazâ bağlamında değerlendirmektedir. Diğer taraftan “ecel”, “an”, “zaman” ve “hayat” kavramları çerçevesinde iyilikler ile ömrün uzamasının mümkün olduğuna dair meseleyi etraflıca tartışmaktadır. Hâdimî söz konusu hadisin barındırdığı hükmü ayrıca incelemekte ve duâların faydasının olmadığını savunan Mu‘tezile’ye itirazlar yönelterek risâleyi sonlandırmaktadır. Tespit edebildiğimiz dört yazma nüshası üzerinden tenkitli neşri yapılarak bir makalede konu edinilen bu risâlenin literatüre kazandırılarak güncelliğini koruyan duâ-kazâ/kader tartışmalarına bir katkı sağlaması hedeflenmektedir
