The Reflection of Classical Age’s Ottoman Economic History and Mentality in Republic Era History Textbooks

Abstract
Our research’s interest is about economic life and how it described in the Classical age of Ottoman history, in the history textbooks from the emergence of republic to today. Review is lay bare that Ottoman mentality, is not really lay on in the textbooks and this situation gives negative effect to the permanence. The method of study is historical descriptive content analysis. For his purpose, which have taught and taught high school history textbooks in Turkey, it was examined by document analysis techniques. Lack of data concerning the Ottoman economic life and mentality has been outstanding. In the context of our research, it appears that we applied to the main reference for understanding the Ottoman mentality. Problems told and described from the words of H. Inalcik M. Genç, A.G. Sayar and especially with the mentality based on groundbreaking researchs S. Ülgener and A.Tabakoğlu who was took a holistic approach to the Turkish economic history.
Özet
Araştırma konumuz Cumhuriyetin ilk tarih ders kitaplarından bu yana, günümüzdeki tarih ders kitaplarına kadar Osmanlı tarihi konuları ve özelinde Klasik dönem içinde iktisadi hayat konularının nasıl anlatıldığına dairdir. İnceleme, Osmanlı zihniyetinin gerçek anlamda ders kitaplarına girmediğini ve bu eksiğinde dersin anlaşılmasını ve kalıcılığını olumsuz yönde etkilediğini ortaya koymaya çalışacaktır. Çalışmanın yöntemi, tarihsel içerikli betimsel analiz incelemesidir. Bu amaçla Türkiye’de liselerde okutulan ve okutulmuş olan tarih ders kitapları, doküman analizi tekniğiyle incelenmiştir. İnceleme sonunda, Osmanlı iktisadi hayatı ve zihniyetine dair verilerin azlığı ve yetersizliği göze çarpmıştır. Araştırmamız bağlamında, Osmanlı zihniyetinin anlaşılması için temel referanslara başvurulduğu görülecektir. Sorunlar, H. İnalcık, M. Genç, A. G. Sayar ve özellikle de zihniyet temelli araştırmalarıyla çığır açan S. Ülgener ve Türk iktisat tarihini bütüncül şekilde incelemeye çalışan A. Tabakoğlu’nun ifadeleri üzerinden anlatılmaya ve çözülmeye çalışılmıştır.
