Economic Growth and Agricultural Employment

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between agricultural growth and employment in Turkey. Using the gross domestic product, employment and agricultural employment data obtained from TURKSTAT for the period of 1990-2019. For this purpose, stationarity analysis and Granger causality test were applied. It was concluded that the data series are second order stationary with the stationarity analysis. In order to determine the direction of the relationships between variables, the Granger causality test based on error correction model revealed a one-way relationship between agricultural employment and GDP, and a two-way causality relationship between employment and GDP.

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, 1990–2019 dönemine ait TÜİK’den elde edilen gayrisafi yurtiçi hasıla, istihdam ve tarımsal istihdam verileri kullanılarak Türkiye’de büyüme ile tarımsal istihdam arasındaki ilişkileri araştırmaktır. Bu amaçla durağanlık analizi ve Granger nedensellik testi uygulanmıştır. Değişkenler arasındaki ilişkilerin yönünü belirlemek amacıyla hata düzeltme modeline bağlı Granger nedensellik testi sonucunda tarımsal GSYİH ile tarımsal istihdam arasında tek yönlü, tarımsal istihdam ile toplam istihdam arasında tek yönlü nedensellik ilişkisi olduğu tespit edilmiştir
