A Method Proposal for the Design of Urban Furniture in the Historical Environment: Konya Sille

Abstract

It takes expertise to design, produce and organize urban furniture, whose functions in urban space aesthetics cannot be ignored. The main subject of this study is the adaptation of urban furniture to its environment in its location, solution recommendations towards what kind of design approach these will reflect, identity development, formation of ideas about possible functions. Therefore, this study chose the pilot area as Hükümet Street which is expected to support cultural tourism that reflects the commercial life, sociocultural structure and architectural character of the Sille Settlement Area which is an important culture tourism corridor for the province of Konya. The method proposal made in this context is made up of analysis and synthesis stages in the light of the parameters belonging to the settlement area. While the analysis is the stage where the functional analyses of the study area are carried out, the synthesis is the stage where the design process is realized. In the functional analyses, the artery points of the study area and the existing urban furniture were determined, and the locations and functions of the urban furniture to be newly designed were found. The design, on the other hand, is made up of workshop activities and project-design processes in which participants are involved, under the supervision of the expert group. The expectation at the end of the study is to reach urban furniture which make the urban environment more active and livable for Sille, as well as producing designs which increase the visual diversity by pointing to the cultural continuity and which reflect the historical city. Thus, it can be pointed out that by fictionalizing urban furniture uniquely and properly, the resulting designs which are compatible with the functions are going to contribute to the production of an urban identity.

Özet

Kent mobilyalarının; konumlandırılacağı çevresi ile uyumu, tarihi veya geleneksel doku içerisinde nasıl bir tasarım anlayışına sahip olmasına yönelik çözüm önerileri ile kimlik kazandırma, ne tür işlevlerin olabileceğine dair fikirlerin üretilmesi çalışmanın ana konusudur. Konya ili için önemli bir kültür turizmi koridoru olan; Sille Yerleşim Bölgesi’nin ticari hayatını, sosyo-kültürel yapısını ve mimari karakterini yansıtan kültür turizmini destekleyeceği düşünülen Hükümet Caddesi pilot alan olarak seçilmiştir. Bu bağlamda önerilen yöntem önerisi, yerleşim alanına ait parametreler ışığında, analiz ve sentez aşamalarından oluşmaktadır. Analiz, çalışma alanının fonksiyonel analizlerinin yapıldığı, sentez ise tasarım sürecinin gerçekleştiği aşamadır. Fonksiyonel analizlerde, çalışma alanının arter noktaları ile mevcut kent mobilyaları tespit edilmiş, yeni yapılacak olan mobilyaların konumları ile işlevleri belirlenmiştir. Tasarım ise, uzman grup gözetiminde katılımcıların dahil olduğu workshop etkinlikleri ile projelendirme sürecinden oluşur. Çalışmanın sonunda beklenen, tarihi kenti yansıtan tasarımların yanı sıra kültürel sürekliliğe işaret ederek görsel çeşitliliği arttırmak ve günümüz yaşam koşullarında Sille için kent yaşamını daha aktif ve yaşanılır bir hale getiren kent mobilyalarına ulaşmaktır. Böylelikle kent mobilyalarının özgün ve doğru bir biçimde kurgulanarak, verilen işleve uygun tasarlanması ile tutarlı bir kent kimliğinin oluşturulmasına katkı sağlayacağı söylenebilir.
