Importance of Heavy Equipment Operator Program and Its Future in Turkey

Abstract
The objective of the Heavy Equipment Operator Program is to provide training for the students who will be employed in the construction, forestry, mining, oil and gas industries. Graduates of the program will be technically qualified, knowledgeable and skilled. In this study, the importance of the Heavy Equipment Operator Program is emphasized and its impacts on related industries are investigated. Moreover, required information about its today situation and future of the heavy equipment industry is supplied. Depending on growth in heavy equipment industry there is growing the need for qualified person who employed as an operator or works for maintenance, repair, and sales and after sales service of these heavy equipment vehicles day by day. In the light of these findings, it can be said that Heavy Equipment Operator Program has gained more importance and it seems to be a promising program. In Turkey, when taking into account the growth rate of the heavy equipment industry it is estimated that the need for heavy equipment operators will increase rapidly. Therefore, in order to contribute to our country’s economic development, it is required to increase the number of technical staff in heavy equipment industry by Heavy Equipment Operator Programs.
Özet
İş Makineleri Operatörlüğü Programı; iş makinelerinin yoğun olarak kullanıldığı inşaat, ormancılık, maden, petrol ve doğalgaz gibi sektörlere tekniker düzeyinde, teknik olarak nitelikli, bilgili ve yetenekli personel yetiştirme çabası içerisinde olan bir programdır. Bu çalışmada, ülkemizde iş makineleri operatörlüğü programının önemi vurgulanmış ve üretim sanayisine olan etkileri irdelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Ayrıca sektörün günümüzdeki durumu ve geleceği hakkında bilgiler verilmiştir. İş makineleri sektörünün büyümesine bağlı olarak çok sayıda iş makinesi operatörüne, imalat, satış ve servis hizmetlerinde çalışacak nitelikli elemanlara duyulan ihtiyaç her geçen gün artmaktadır. Bu bulgular ışığında iş makineleri operatörlüğü programının büyük bir öneme sahip ve gelecek vaat eden bir program olduğu görülmektedir. Ülkemizin diğer sektörlere bağlı olarak iş makineleri sektöründeki büyüme hızı göz önüne alındığında iş makinelerini kullanacak nitelikli personel ihtiyacı hızla artacağı tahmin edilmektedir. Bu nedenle ülkemiz için hedeflenen ekonomik büyümenin gerçekleşmesine katkıda bulunmak amacıyla bu ihtiyacın hızlı bir şekilde giderilmeye çalışılması gerekmektedir.
