Inflation and Price Increases in Turkey Period of 1980-2005

Abstract

In this study, general information about theoretical models used in explaining inflation phenomenon had been given. With this, it has been tried to investigate the source of price increases in Turkey. In the first part of this study, therotical models have been summarized and, in the second part, 1980 and 2005 period have been reviewed and regression relationships have been compared between quantitative size and price increments. Obviously, it is impossible to reach a definite conclusion due to the complex nature of inflation and/or price increments in this study. The objectives of this study are to determine the direction of Turkey’s developments and to search for the factors affecting this issue.

Bu çalışmada, enflasyon olgusunun açıklamasında kullanılan kuramsal modeller hakkında genel bilgiler verilmiş ve bu bilgilerle Türkiye'deki fiyat artışlarının kaynağına inilmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın birinci bölümünde kuramsal modeller özetlendikten sonra, ikinci bölümde 1980–2005 dönemi ele alınarak bu dönemdeki sayısal büyüklüklerle, fiyat artışları arasında regresyon ilişkileri aranmıştır. Ebetteki enflasyon gibi karmaşık bir olguyu, böyle bir seminer çalışması içinde tüm ayrıntıları ile irdeleyip, fiyat artışları konusunda kesin yargılara varmak olanaksızdır. Çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye’deki gelişmelerin doğrultusunu belirlemek ve etkenlerin neler olabileceği, önemleri hakkında genel bir sonuca varmaktır.
