Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify factors that play a key role in Turkey’s current account deficit problem and to put forward proposals to reduce the current account deficit. For this purpose, the monthly data of the exchange rate, M2 money supply, oil prices, foreign direct investments, exports and inflation variables between 1992-2017 are used. The dynamic conditional correlation coefficients (DCC) obtained from MV-GARCH model and the dynamic relationship between the variables are investigated. The results of the analysis show that the correlation coefficient values between the current account and all other variables are statistically significant. Furthermore, there is a positive correlation between export and foreign direct investment and current account while their correlation with the remaining variables is negative.
