A Research About “Father” Motif in Yang Gui Ca’s “A Distant and Beautiful Place”

Abstract
Since the 1960s, the people who have been forced into industrialization and urbanization under pressure with the democratization process in Korea have faced various social problems. The problems faced by the public due to these social problems have also been the subject of literary works. Yang Gui Ca's “Far and Beautiful Neighborhood an, one of the authors who realistically handles the difficulties and problems in Korean society, has an important place in the history of Korean literature. This work consists of eleven connected stories. The father motif discussed in the study was evaluated by this work. In this study, the father motif is handled in two ways. One cares about traditional value judgments and the other is a paternal motif depicting a devoted family head. Despite the economic difficulties in Korean society in the 1980s, the father of the head of the family and the moral values rather than the moral values of the two communities who strive to maintain their traditions. With this study, it is aimed to examine these two father characters through the work.
Özet
Kore’de 1960lı yıllardan itibaren demokratikleşme süreciyle birlikte baskı altında sanayileşme ve kentleşmeye zorlanan halk, çeşitli toplumsal sorunlarla karşı kaşıya gelmiştir. Bu toplumsal sorunlar yüzünden halkın maruz kaldığı sıkıntılar edebiyat eserlerine de konu olmuştur. Kore toplumunda yaşanan zorluk ve sorunları realist bir şekilde ele alan yazarlardan Yang Gui Ca’ nın “ Uzak ve Güzel Mahalle” adlı eseri Kore Edebiyat tarihinde önemli bir yere sahiptir. Bu eser birbiriyle bağlantılı on bir öyküden oluşmaktadır. Çalışmada ele alınan baba motifi bu eser vasıtasıyla değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada baba motifi iki şekilde ele alınmaktadır. Biri geleneksel değer yargılarını önemseyen diğeri fedakâr aile reisini resmeden baba motifidir. 1980li yıllarda Kore toplumundaki ekonomik sıkıntılara rağmen aile reisi olan baba ile manevi değerlerden çok maddiyata önem veren toplum içerisinde geleneklerini korumak için çaba sarf eden iki karakter. Bu çalışmayla birlikte bu iki baba karakteri eser vasıtasıyla incelemek amaçlanmıştır.
