OUT OF SCHOOL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT IN STEM EDUCATION: Kastamonu Science Camp

Abstract

The Changing World has made it a very important position for out-of-school learning and the solution of everyday life problems. The aim of this study is to present the results of “Future Engineers at Work! -2” project within the scope of TUBITAK 4004 Nature Education and Science Schools. Within the scope of the study, the scientific process skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills and the changes in the interests of astronomy in the fields of engineering, science, astronomy and art are presented. In the project, 45 volunteer students in 7th and 8th grade in Kastamonu were taken to a one-week camp. Scales were applied to students as pre - post - test and changes were examined. The students' level of using scientific process skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills and their interest towards astronomy at the end of the camp significantly changed in favor of the post-test.

Özet

Değişen dünya, okul dışı öğrenmeyi ve günlük yaşam problemlerinin çözümünü çok önemli bir konuma getirmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı TÜBİTAK 4004 Doğa Eğitimi ve Bilim Okulları kapsamında gerçekleştirilen “Geleceğin Mühendisleri İş Başında!-2” projesinin sonuçlarını sunmaktır. Çalışma kapsamında mühendislik, bilim, astronomi ve sanat alanlarında uygulamalı olarak gerçekleştirilen etkinliklerin öğrencilerin bilimsel süreç becerileri, eleştirel düşünme, problem çözme becerileri ve astronomiye yönelik ilgileri üzerindeki etkisi ortaya konulmuştur. Projede Kastamonu’da 7 ve 8. sınıfta öğrenim gören gönüllü 45 öğrenci bir haftalık kampa alınmıştır. Öğrencilere ön test - son test olarak ölçekler uygulanmış ve değişimler incelenmiştir. Öğrencilerin kamp sonunda bilimsel süreç becerilerini kullanma düzeyleri, eleştirel düşünme ve problem çözme becerileri ve astronomiye karşı ilgileri anlamlı olarak son test lehine değişmiştir.
