PARASITES FOUND IN DOGS FECES IN THE KUTAHYA MUNICIPALITY ANIMAL SHELTER

KÜTAHYA BELEDİYESİ HAYVAN BARINAĞI’NDAKİ KÖPEKLERİN DIŞKILARINDA BULUNAN BAŞLICA PARAZİTLER

Abstract

This study was performed to determine the prevalence of parasites and parasite eggs in stray dogs in the Kütahya Municipality Animal Shelter. Dogs of different ages and sexes were used in the study. It was found that the dogs were infected by parasites after the faecal samples were examined and also, rates of infection were %66 in the Kütahya Municipality Animal Shelter. The parasites, responsible for the infection were identified as follows: Toxocara canis %51, Toxoscaris leonina %12, Ancylostoma caninum %3, Isospora sp. %15 and one Demodex sp. (%3). As a result,the dogs,released from from Kütahya Municipality Animal Shelter, were infected by parasites that can be dangerous for the community. Because of high number of the dogs in the centrum, precaution should be taken for public health.

Özet

Bu çalışma, Kütahya Belediyesi Hayvan Barınağı’ndaki köpeklerde parazit ve yumurta yaygınlığını belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmada barınakta bulunan, değişik yaş ve cinsiyetteki köpeklerin değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır. Dışkı bakılarına göre muayenesi yapılan köpeklerin farklı parazit türleri tarafından enfekte olduğu tespit edilmiş, incelenen örneklerde enfeksiyon oranının %66 olduğu belirlenmiştir. Enfeksiyona neden olan türler Toxocara canis %51, Toxoscaris leonina %12, Ancylostoma caninum %3, Isospora sp. %15 olarak saptanmış ve bir köpekte de Demodex sp. (%3) tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, Kütahya Belediyesi Barınağı’ndan salınan köpeklerin halk sağlığını tehlikeye sokabilecek parazitlerle enfekte olduğu ve şehir merkezinde bulunan köpek sayısının fazla olması nedeniyle bu tehlikeye karşı önlem alınması gerektiği kanısına varılmıştır.
