Abstract

Ibn Malik who lived in 7th century AH in our region that is in southeast of Turkey is wellknown of his “Alfiyya” which is about grammar of Arabic (al-nahv). However Ibn Malik alongside with the grammar dealt also with lexicography which is a generally neglected fact. Lexicography focuses on the words of a certain language and their meanings and so it is an important part of linguistic resarchs. When we come to Ibn Malik and lexicography his alMaqsûr va’l-mamdûd is one of his possiple works flashs into mind. In his this work Ibn Malik handles maqsur and mamdud words in Arabic. The work is composed as a poem and every single couplets of the work comprises two maqsur and mamdud words together with an ascetic advice to the reader. Thus, Ibn Malik in his this work gathers ascetic, poem, and lexicograph into a single work.
