The Building the Identity in Mahallemies in the Changing and Solution Process

Abstract

This article aims to explain what dynamics the Mahallemies areaffected, the direction of this building and its leading fundamental factors whilebuilding the identities of the Mahallemies. Qualitative methods have beenemployed in obtaining the data about it. The Mahallemies have been affectedfrom the ethno-political structuring and rhetoric of identity. The associationsand s ocial n etwork g roups f ounded f or t hem h ave b een e ffective i n b uildingtheir ethnic identity. In this process, The Arabic identity has come intoprominence and the native language / Arabic has gained more visibility. Alongwith this, The Mahallemies have been against identity-based manipulations andclashes. S tating t heir f aith i n T urkey in terms of the country policy, theMahallemies want to be recognized as Arabic and take the advantage ofeducational, political and media institutions available in this respect.
