THE EVOLUTION OF THE CLASSIC MILITARY POWER APPROACH IN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS: OUTER SPACE AREA

Abstract

All kinds of issues and facts related to the structure and actors of the global system are the scope of the International Relations discipline. In parallel with the developments in science and technology in the middle of the 20th century, the outer space field has begun to take its place in the international relations literature. From the 21st century on, every moment of life has become directly related to outer space technologies. In this study, the importance of outer space is emphasized by the general understanding of power in international relations. Taking into account the international decisions and the actions of the states, it was determined that the race of sovereignty had begun in the outer space and reached to the military dimensions, just like the search for sovereignty in time. This study aims to evaluate the outer space from the perspective of international relations as a new power competition field. In this context, it is aimed to contribute to the power and outer space studies in the Turkish international relations literature.

Özet

Küresel sistemin yapısı ve aktörlerine dair her türlü konu ve olgu, Uluslararası İlişkiler disiplininin kapsamını oluşturmaktadır. 20. yüzyılın ortalarındaki bilim ve teknolojideki gelişmelere paralel olarak dış uzay sahası, uluslararası ilişkiler yazınında henüz yerini almaya başlamıştır. 21. yüzyıldan itibaren ise yaşamın her anı dış uzay teknolojileriyle doğrudan ilgili hale gelmiştir. Bu çalışmada, uluslararası ilişkilerdeki genel güç anlayışı üzerinden dış uzayın önemine vurgu yapılmaktadır. Uluslararası kararlar ve devletlerin eylemleri dikkate alınarak, tıpkı zamanında okyanuslardaki egemenlik arayışı gibi, dış uzayda da egemenlik yarışının başladığı ve askeri boyutlara ulaştığı tespit edilmiştir. Bu çalışma, dış uzayı yeni bir güç rekabet sahası olarak uluslararası ilişkiler perspektifinden değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu doğrultuda Türkçe uluslararası ilişkiler yazınındaki güç ve dış uzay çalışmalarına katkı sağlanması hedeflenmektedir.
